I hear that argument a lot. The general point I'd make is that re-signing a player before his contract lapses is supposed to be advantageous to the team. You've got plenty of time to get it done, the player gets used to the city, etc. If you're re-signing a guy at UFA prices then that's a poor bit of business by team management.

It really depends on the perceived value and demand for that or type of player if they were to hit the open market.

I would probably do that. However I have a feeling that Mac T is going to draft a center and go hard after Markov and another veteran D in free agency. I think Justin Schultz, Nurse, Klefbom & ,Marincin will make a solid top 4 2-3 years down the road with the right veteran leadership helping them along the way.

He's the first year coach of a team that's taken a nose-dive this year in the standings. I wouldn't look for gems of understanding at this point, nor full transparency.

I listened to Gillis' presser the other day because I heard it was actually interesting for once. In reality these guys are like big kids crying about whose most to blame for breaking the toy.
