I thought it was a good first period, kept the Sabres out of the middle of the ice in their offensive zone. |

Know I beat this drum before, but it really is poopty seeing Couturier always in be put in a shutdown mode/role.
Have my doubts about it helping him develop an offensive game if he is always doing that. - flyer_nutter
Meh. No ones telling him not to score goals.

Apparently, Andrew MacDonald is a tremendous defenseman, and his name not being mentioned for the Norris trophy is an insult |

Other teams top lines aren't usually great defenders, Coots should be able to generate some offense against these guys. Especially with Read and Downie or Raffle. |

if someone MADE me bet and said "one team is kicking the shyt out of their lesser opponent and one team is barely beating their lesser opponent' i would have to bet on it not being the flyers that were steamrolling a bad team..... |

No one labeled him a tremendous defenseman. But he is also not a player that can be easily replaced in Free Agency by a cheaper player. I hope the Flyers aren't that foolish to believe that.

I think Coots and Read have been generating offense, but unfortunately not scoring goals. |

I agree. I've heard rumors saying that he wants 4 years, $20m+....if that's true, I'd rather go after a Hainsey or Stralman. Either of them will give you similar levels of play and likely cost less.
It's not a knock on MacDonald. I think he's been solid, despite what the stats say. But I'm not really interested in another 4/5 guy, if he's making more than Coburn. |

Actually he is. I provided the names of two UFAs that are likely to cost less that are also solid 4/5 defensemen. Not too hard to visit capgeek and check it out. |

Read now has 21 goals on the year. That is exceptional for a player in the role he is in.

What if I told you it's possible to shut down and play offense at the same time? |

Whoa, wouldn't go anywhere near that far, but I think MacDonald has done good job and Im not sure they will find anyone much better in free agency. |

I have little interest in Hainsey at this point in his career. Pretty sure Morin will get his stage addition early next season, and we'll see what happens after that. IMHO, a lot hinges on whether Kimmo comes back next season and how the top 6 will be shaped. I think Kimmo comes back, Berube has done a nice job of not running him into the ground.

Actually he's not. Just looking at Capgeek and comparing two different players salaries, doesn't mean that player is as good of a player. That is subjective.
