Gus is 25... not exactly a spring chicken in prospect terms. - Tomahawk
I think they'll keep him, but if they feel Ghost, Alt or Hagg are going to move past him very soon, they may move him during camp.
I still think he's a nice luxury to have as a 7th dman at a cheap price. The idea of going back to Lilja, Matt Walker or Gervais isn't appealing. |

I can't see them just letting him become a UFA. Its not like he's going to cost a ton. He's one of the better 7th dmen in the league. They won't be replacing him with a better, less expensive option.
I can see them trading him for a similar player. A guy who has fallen out of favor, but may be a better fit somewhere else. - PhillySportsGuy
You are correct.
But who says Gus wants to come back? He could easily go play overseas if he doesn't think the Flyers, or another team for that matter, are going to give him a real shot.

I think a lot will depend on this offseason. If they come back with a solid top 6 with no room for competition, I can see him going overseas until he's 27. |

He's 25 years old, so if he has any hopes of a professional hockey career in the NHL, he might be better served going to another organization or even playing overseas, simply to get more ice time and exposure.
I kinda thought Gus would get playing time just due to injuries, but the blueline has been uncannily healthy this year. |

It's crazy how much better Gus is than all 3 of those guys, and he's the smallest of the 3 and has nowhere near as much experience as any of them. |

Exactly. I'd love for him to stick around, personally. I think he's a more than capable 5-6 guy who could end up stepping into a top 4 role as a puck mover if he ever gets consistent ice time.
25 really isn't old, especially for dmen. They typically take (roughly) 300 games or so to really get comfortable at the NHL level, anyway. |

Sometimes I read the TSN comments and realize that, as bad as this board gets at times, it's still probably the best place to have somewhat rational hockey talk. Example:
ghostcod, YA, okay Iggy was upset that the refs got in between, ya Zac got a poke in Iggy was ready to continue. Lucic didn't have to catch him he was standing right in front of him Zac wanted no part of him Rinaldo is identical to Matt Cooke.hit and run. Like Lucic or not he hit and stand there. Who says 'oh please' hilarious you have to stop watching coronation street burnt brain. He didn't go after Ryan Miller crying Ryan came to him and he stood and fought Gaustad who is 2' taller next time they played and cleaned him by the way |

The dumbest part was the timing of the hit. They were up 4-0 in the third. There is no need to try and lay someone out. He needs to better understand time and place. - PhillySportsGuy
Exactly, if you guys were playing a good or even average team that 5 minute penalty could have cost you the game

Just wanted to say that I've been a supporter of Lecavalier as a player. I think the talk of his demise is short sighted. But I was wrong about one thing with Lecavalier. I thought he would be able to adjust to playing the Left side. I was wrong about that. It's clear that he can't play the LW spot effectively. He's a Center and he needs to be playing center. And I think he should be centering the 2nd line. - MJL

You don't sit a 25 yr old in the stands for 50+ games in a season. Just pointing at his stats you can make an argument he's deserved a better lot this year. I'm sure he feels the same way. I can't imagine a situation where he returns for more of the same. |

For those of you loving the Flyers Prospect suspension watch; the watch is on again. Laughton got thrown out of last night's playoff game against the Petes for butt ending. |

He can't let Morin outdo him.
I'm very unimpressed with Leier, I don't think he's gotten suspended at all during his WHL career. |

Well, if Vinny was on a hot streak, why do you keep prorating his numbers for a short stretch. - PhillySportsGuy
Very simple. To refute the comments made that the line and combination of players hasn't played well together this year, at any time. They have. And Lecavalier has played well at 2nd line center for a significant stretch of games. |
