If you are going to overpay players, do it for true difference makers, not fringe guys. I'd rather pay in the 7-8 million range for a top pairing stud, then 5 for a borderline 3-4 guy. Problem is top dmen don't reach FA often.

AMac's regular stats + fancy stats + usage + tools match up almost exactly with Chris Butler of the Flames. Nobody thinks he's worth Yandle/Byfuglien/McDonagh level money. For some strange reason, AMac is deemed worthy of that 1000% raise.

I think it remains to be seen what the people that matter the most, think that Butler and MacDonald is worth.

All the talk is how the Flyers need to improve the puck skill and all around play on the backend. Now they got a player who has done exactly that, and some balk at paying the player market value. And are willing to walk away. And then it will be said that he is easily replaced in Free Agency. If it was that easy, why wasn't it done previously.
This could be the same situation as with Carle. Many balked at the cost, and then lamented that he was missed later.

Boyle has gotten old in a hurry after his bad concussion, and the Flyers already have one 35+ defenseman under contract for next season who can run the PP but can't kill penalties.

They drive play on the team they play for in the situations of how they're used. Will they do the same in a Flyers uniform? MacDonald has made a clear upgrade to the Flyers ability to move the puck on breakouts.

Their chances of winning seemed pretty good when they were the high-flying Caps of yesteryear... GMGM seemed to cave in to conventional wisdom and the identity is all mixed up now. Like Vancouver, their skill used to be extremely hard to match up against.... now they're just a second-rate team with a couple of first-rate players.

I'll say this much: Going to the game is about 20,000x better than watching it on TV, for like 5 minutes. Then, yeah, it's like watching it on TV.
