We've got a pretty good goalie coach (Rollie Melanson) and I think the intent was for Markstrom to spend as much time with him as possible to "undo" any bad habits that may have thrown his development off trajectory. I'm in favor of shutting him down entirely and giving him all summer to rebuild.

That said, it sounds like Torts will be giving him a whirl in some of the remaining games.

I hope so would like to see him get some games in before the end of the season.

Based on what we've seen lately from this team, I would avoid playing Markstrom this season. I think he already has enough confidence issues stemming from his illustrious days in Fla.

Your defense is WAY better. Marky will look a lot better with a team that knows how to play defense in front of him.

He can't be like Lu and carry the team on his back at least not yet. I hope the kid figures it out he was one of my favorites was very disappointed when we got rid of him.

But I guess I can't complain to much since Lu has been awesome for us. Now if only we could put a team in front of him that isn't total poop... It's the pink panther all over again part 2.

I understand your frustration. But I think you are at least in pretty good hands with Dale Tallon (depending on how much $$$ he's got to work with).

P.S. I'm happy for Luo, was always a fan and thought he got the shaft this past year with all the idiocy (in particular, the Heritage Classis was the ultimate f*ck you and extremely class-less)

they couldn't play the guy in a game when they were working on a deal. if Luo got injured they would have been totally F*d. you can't trade an injured player like that when the other team expects him to be healthy. it would have put the org in an even worse spot when Florida's ownership and mgmt were ready to make a splash by bringing Luo back to Florida.

Don't just parrot the Eastern media's bullshiite.

Time will tell if he can finally turn this team around. Hoping we finally got an owner will to ice a competitive team and not just a cap friendly team.

Ya I also didn't really get the whole Classis thing. They knew what it meant to Lu, they had to know not playing him wasn't going to go over well. Hell the devils played Brodeur in theirs and we all know how bad he is nowadays...

Would just think if they really wanted to stick with Lu why not give him that game to make him happy?

All depends if the deal was in the works or not at that point. I really can't say one way or another.

Pretty sure its generally accepted by local media that the trade was not worked on really until Lou didn't get the start. Gillis is the only touting they were working on a deal for Lou.

Yeah, not starting Luongo for the Classic was classless, and it goes to show you how both the management and coaching staff both need to go and for the team to be rebuilt from the ground up. It was obvious then that there was a huge disconnect between all facets of the organization at that point and that the season was lost. It brings to mind the bad years between mid to late 80's to the early 90's before Pavel & Co. came to town. Can someone get Jimmy Patterson out of his cryogenic tube and have him do a hostile takeover of the Aquillinis and take over the Canucks.

Actually, you're incorrect, the deal only happened because, after Luo was snubbed by Torts et al with respect to the Heritage Classic game, he was very upset and it was at this point that he again approached his agent, who in turn approached Florida and Gillis to get the wheels in motion. Protecting Luongo was not an issue whatsover until after that Heritage game. It was simply a classless act by a megalomaniac.

and well said, there certainly seems to be a big disconnect within various factions of the organization. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds in the weeks to come. In my humble opinion, though, I think that the owner is overly meddlesome and that is, as always, a recipe for disaster. Hopefully that will change going forward

Agreed, I was really blown away when I heard the announcement that Luongo wouldn't be starting. Just as you noted, New Jersey at least had the class to let Marty start their outdoor game, even though I'm pretty sure they would have preferred to have Schneider in there. It's called respect and knowing how to treat a player who has meant so much to a franchise for some many years. And in Luongo's case, there wasn't even any reason to think that Lack was a better choice to start this game. Just classless.

Wouldn't that be lovely.

We might as well had hired D. Dreger as GM. Could he have willingly run this team into the ground as bad as Gillis has unwillingly??

clean house and fire both. Gillis does need to go, but Torts isn't helping the situation. The talent level on the roster has fallen off a cliff compared to where it was in 2011, but taking offensive minded players and having them blocking shots and focusing entirely on defense is just as silly.

Promote one of your assistants, hire a new GM and a couple of pieces should get the Canucks back in the playoffs sooner than later.

The question is whether or not the right decisions will be made. You're in a better spot for that than the Isles are. We need a new coach, an NHL caliber goaltender younger than 39/40, and a top 4 defensive defenseman. Our problem is that our owner is a wingnut and Snow doesn't seem to shine unless it's mid round drafting or picking players off waivers.

I get that everyone wants Gillis and Torts gone... but who are the realistic options for replacements? Not a lot of top-flight choices out there IMO

EDIT: Whoa... Dreger and Mckenzie saying that Linden is expected to be the new president...

Bringing Linden is as president seems like an extremely weak and desperate move to smooth this franking disaster over... I bet Gillis dreamed this one up, "Hey FA, Don't fire anyone! If we bring Linden onboard, the fan's will shut up just long enough for me to fix this mess!!"

I just realized something that made me throw up in my mouth. There is no way the Cheap A** Aqualini's will fire Torts. Here is why. We have only been looking at the cost of firing torts at 8mill however there are 2 other coaches with Torts and that cost will be somewhere 10-12 mil combined where is MG is a definite 8mil. Also the chants are fire Gilis not Torts. I suspect FA will do the math and chose the least expensive solution and think that it will fix the issues. The worst thing is that we will now get a GM that will be more of a yes man and is willing to work with Torts. The GM will be forced to accept the coach that is here. Same as Gillis was forced to accept AV when he came on board. We have some very testing years ahead of us. So to all of us that is expecting, Hextall, McNabb can only dream on. There is no self respecting GM candidate will come here to be a puppet to the Aqualinins and get their career derailed because all blame will be on the GM. FML

Sounding like Gilly is getting the can actually. The Linden move is definitely a PR move, but I don't mind it, provided he brings in a quality GM

Linden will bring in Nazzy as GM. PR move right there. Maybe then they can hire Messier to the HC position and the Sedins can transition to the assistants. Canucks leadership.
