College b-ball no less. Given the willingness to win that they've shown, maybe some of them can be candidates for head office positions for the Canucks.

I don't hope so. Firing MG and keeping Torts tells me all I need to know. Either just fire Torts or fire both.
- Nucker101

If only one is gone, it should be Torts.

If Gillis is gone, and Torts stays and there is a new GM, how long will Torts last? What kind of experienced GM will want to be saddled with Torts? FA telling new GM, "we want to give Torts every chance to get this team going..."

Wonder what the real story is?

Somehow, that will be blamed on the Canucks and their fans.

That was some Rookie rioting. They could learn a thing or two.

Next 2 weeks will be huge for this franchise, by then we'll likely found out who's gone and who's staying and if the Aquilini's are more interested in ticket sales or a strong, well-run franchise. A quick fix like Linden might generate more renewals and new sales for next year but what happens if they sucks and are boring again next season? Do the Aquilini's fire another scape goat and hire another ex-Canuck to take his position again?

Hiring Linden and keeping torts would be the worst possible move. Linden has no experience and has a lot of haters around the league from his NHLPA days. Would be a good question of who is more hated MG or Linden.

If torts is here next year then FA will have screwed us. A few players underachieving is one thing. Every player massively underachieving, and brutal special teams show this coach has got to go.

I'd like to think that if Linden becomes President of Hockey Ops it will be to take the franchise in a new direction. That being the case, and barring any weird intervention from the Aquillinis, I would assume both Gillis and Tortorella would be let go.

However if Linden is hired only as a PR move, then it's possible Gillis might stay on with the organization and focus exclusively on GM duties. If that's the case, I only expect Torts to be let go.

Bottom line: my prediction is that Torts will be let go in virtually every scenario.

Yeah, I really hope that the Aquilini's don't have a knee jerk reaction to last night. A lot of media out there think this is all about the optics for season ticket renewals. Getting rid of MG and having Torts still here won't help that. The Canucks need to play entertaining hockey next year; MG is committed to that, I don't think Torts is anywhere near capable of that.

It is an interesting dynamic.

It is terrible that it gets to the point where the crowd is calling for Gillis' head and the media jumps all over it. I thought it made Burke look like a weak gm in Toronto when he fired Wilson. If the gm and org have a plan and the coach was part of that play, why react to chanting fans (ignoring the fact they are paying customers)? It just seems very reactionary.

Fire Torts. Or fire them both. Because if you keep Torts, the team will be totally screwed because the next gm that comes in will have to tailor the team to Torts' crappy system and style of play...

Edit: meaning the media will jump all over anything to create a stir and sell papers or hits on web sites.

Trevor said on the radio this morning he's had zero discussion regarding anything with the Canucks organization.

I think the Aquilini's are too cheap to let the team flounder for another year under Torts. Nobody will buy tickets to watch that style of play. Like Alex said Torts' firing has to be included in any scenario.

Awesome. Hopefully he's telling the truth but when Bob Mac reports something there's usually something behind it.

Yeah, I don't trust Dreger since he definitely wants Gillis gone. But MacKenzie and LeBrun have nothing against the Canucks and both had interesting tweets today. LeBrun never said anything about Linden though and just last week he was saying that Torts is gone and Gillis could be staying.

If its indeed true. Its a straight up PR move to attach a historic Canuck with this franchise because season ticket renewals have been so god awful.

Last stab at getting more money in there pockets.

As much as I have disliked Gillis over the last couple seasons, And did not like Torts from the beginning Its starting to look like the real problem is on the very top.....

Read that article. Totally agree with Tony's take on the treatment of some players and how we keep trying to put Hansen in out top 6.

Perhaps i'm missing something but, i fail to see how promoting a former player to a management role with little to no influence would have any impact on ticket sales.

As a former season ticket holder, i could care less about faces in the head office apart from those directly responsible for the on ice product.

Slept in and woke up to all of this...

Was wondering if someone could get a full hockey arena to chant something like...

Fire Harper! Fire Harper! Fire Harper! Fire Harper!

Could we get a federal election sooner?

One positive about a new GM for sure would be that he'd have an easier time asking players to waive NTC's since the loyalty factor would be gone. Who knows what players would actually do it though.

Yeah I think we've all slowly been coming to that conclusion. The problem is, of course, that ownership can't be fired so the best we can hope for (apart from the Aquillinis selling the team) is that some agreement is reached with whoever the GM is that they are allowed to run the team freely without ownership intervention.
