Perhaps i'm missing something but, i fail to see how promoting a former player to a management role with little to no influence would have any impact on ticket sales.

As a former season ticket holder, i could care less about faces in the head office apart from those directly responsible for the on ice product.

As do I. But the Aquilinnis are in the money making business they are attatching this guys name to this franchise to save face after a disasterous season.

One positive about a new GM for sure would be that he'd have an easier time asking players to waive NTC's since the loyalty factor would be gone. Who knows what players would actually do it though.

I was thinking of that new president of GM, no knowledge of any past issues with cars or ignition systems... guess they didn't exist. (they made fun of it on snl and daily show).

And if you really want players to waive ntc's then keep Torts.

Tough to say but all things being equal there really are only a few criteria that would need to be ticked off for a player to waive:

a) He likes the new location (city, climate, family likes it too, etc)
b) He likes the new team (contender status, ice time, players, coach, etc)
c) He has been marginalized in his current role to such an extent that he simply wants out for the sake of his career

C is the best case scenario when trying to get a player to waive because it generally opens up the list of teams he's willing to waive to. Unfortunately for most of the guys we've been discussing as trade bait, it'll likely come down to A and/or B, which limits to potential destinations and thus the potential return.

They really want Russia to be booted out. They do love their Ukraine in Kentucky.

Slept in and woke up to all of this...

Was wondering if someone could get a full hockey arena to chant something like...

Fire Harper! Fire Harper! Fire Harper! Fire Harper!

Could we get a federal election sooner?

Yeah, but firing Torts while also bringing in a new GM allows you to potentially move more players, which means more flexibility with the retool, rebuild, whatever, etc and you get to hire a coach that can hopefully coach a more possession style of game. I just hope that the new GM isn't just a "yes man" puppet for Aquilini. I also prefer analytical GM's, I don't want a Burke/Nonis type.

I read that this morning.

I've always gotten the impression that for many down there war seems like a video game. I wonder if they actually can fathom what a straight up war with Russia would actually mean.

PS. And apparently a few people thought Ukraine was in BC, one of them in Vancouver.
