Equalize his save %? So then you're just making the assumption that the low save percentage has nothing to do with the fact that he's on the ice and maybe teams have more space and generate better opportunities because he's on the ice? This is like saying Edmonton wouldn't suck so bad if they had better players. It's nonsense. - DoubleDown
Yak to be nominated for the selke this year after taking into account equalization.
Also wins the art ross, rocket and jennings after equalization. |

Again then. How do you justify datsyuk and other selke players having similar on ice sv%? Are they poopty defensively? - Iggysbff
No they just allow few shots against, and the few they do allow are OBVIOUSLY higher percentage shots (because they go in at a *gasp* higher percentage). Is Datsyuk a -33 though? I don't think so.
Yakupov allows MORE shots to go through that are also higher percentage. Hence the incredibly low +/-
Just so you know correlation =/= causation. |

It is mind boggling that the modern GMs are looking towards the advance stats and play against OTHER ELITE PLAYERS and how people try to explain them away.
The +/- use with other stats, fenwick, corsi even the SV% are all good stats especially used with simple observations of the players play.
SV% for instance is thought of as "luck" well how does that make sense if you are watching a player constantly back checking and forcing bad shots from the outside instead of between the circles? Especially when other teams attempt to change there play after a period with mindsets that change to "we need to get more pucks to the net, and try to get a dirty goal."
It seems to me that many people are kinda stuck in the transition period, like baseball was, in using advanced stats in conjunction with general stats.
For instance, a high on base% in conjunction with a low/high runs scored can mean a lot of things, hence the use in combination with other stats to get a better picture of bad base running or bad support hitters, etc.
Basically, if you watch OVI there is a VERY GOOD REASON why his +/- is crap. And I haven't even looked at his Offensive zone faceoff-to-Defensive zone face off, or the other advanced stats, simply because, he doesn't go to the corners for the puck, he has his stick cocked with a golf club swing on the circle tops and floats when the team has the puck in the O-zone and try's to float in the neutral zone and his D blue line for a quick pass and break away.
Simple, he is not a leader or a team player and he will not win a Cup with this mindset, PERIOD. |

Oh jesus...... Or maybe his +/- sucks because his team isn't very good and he's on the ice all...the..time
Niklas Backstrom is a -20 and only has 10 even strength goals.
I think it's safe to assume you cannot win with Backstrom either. I swear if Ovi were American or Canadian the media's tune would be so different towards him |

This is new in the last 1.5 seasons. People seem to forget they are playing in a system. The reason the caps are losing isn't him, it is management and coaching. If you think otherwise, then your dislike for him is blinding you to reality. |

Two reason I think ovechkin sucks.
1. I have eyes.
2. They work. |

I'm utterly amazed that a 50 goal sorer is actually getting blamed for not helping a team win....... |

A foolish low market team would give the world for him and destroy there team for the long term to fill seats and sell jerseys in the short term. Then the NHL will have to step in and buy or relocate another team that is bleeding money as the players all want more of the revenue pie.
The only chance this guy will ever change is if he gets lucky enough to play for Babcock or Julien or Hitchcock or maybe Sutter.
It needs to be a deep team with MEN AS LEADERS already. And a coach that is not on a hot seat and is established.
In a case like this he will be peer pressured into change or he will go to the KHL. |

Needed that worthless team to beat the NYR for us and that oaf is just loafing around refusing to play defense and letting Stepan skate into a puck looking straight at an empty and he does nothing. It's like he didn't even care about losing as long as he hit his 50 goal mark. |

So, Crosby's +/- must be in the toilet too then, because he is the best player on his team too and has had soooo many injuries to his team so he must have a bad minus?
He is the best player his team and due to watching him play, he will never get respect because he is not a good overall player.
And nice try with the American Canadian thing, because nobody has heard of or respects pavel datsyuk................? |

Goals win games. He scores a lot of them. Mike Green is worse, Marcus Johansson can't bury a chance to save his life, they are getting sub par goaltending... Lot's of problems in DC, Ovi is the least of them |

What is Pitt's goal differential? I bet it's in the positive, and by a lot.
+/- is a bogus stat. It doesn't take a lot of factors into consideration |

+/- is an on ice stat not a team stat. +/- can get thrown around a lot in a lot of bad situations and can be misread easily by IDIOTS. Anyone who thinks it is a bogus stat is either not smart enough to figure it out or knows nothing about hockey. |

Seriously?
Weren't you guys supposed to win the Atlantic and win the Cup a couple years ago after you went out and signed Ernoff, etc? Now you are rebuilding...
I promise you that Bergeron on almost any team would have a positive plus. Same with Kopitar, with Toews, etc.
Watch the game instead of looking at stats and trying to explain away what you see.
So many NHL 13 GM Mode guys on this web site. |
