If the person or persons hired by FA have ever cashed a Canuck paycheque in the past, we are more (frank)ed than I thought.

OK, great you fired the guy who was your b!tch, now, Fransisco Aquilini, will you pull the same crap with the new GM.
The curtain has been pulled back, and you have been exposed. The Luongo contract was your doing, then blocking the trade of Luongo and dealing CS was your doing too, also the hiring of Tortorella.
Quite meddling or get the fack out. |

In a few short years the Canucks have gone from being a enviable team ( & most hated because of that) to the laughing stock of the league. Well done, everyone!! |

That's cause their stacking them up, we have a replacement and a back up replacement, if that guy gets fired in the next 12 months. |

It's not that I disagree with that comment, but I do think we're overstating the Aquillini influence here. It's true that meddling owners can be annoyingly involved in some key decisions, but to take it to other extreme and assume they're giving executive orders on:
- Every trade negotiation from start to finish
- Every draft pick selected
- Every UFA signing
- Every coach hiring (this one may be true)
then a good portion of the blame still sits with Gillis and a replacement can improve matters.
Whether a GM without full autonomy can ever achieve what they truly want is a different story, but our current situation most definitely can be improved with a more competent GM. - AlexF
No question, and I've said it before I have no issues with getting rid of Gillis, I just worry that this decision was more reactionary by ownership than due to a clear, level-headed assessment of the franchise from top to bottom. The fact that the rumors (from admittedly less than trustworthy sources) have a new Pres/GM/Director of Hockey Ops ready to go makes me cringe.
Who is out there and better yet available to be put under contract that is much more competent than Gillis? All the best candidates still are under contract to their teams and won't be able to talk to the Canucks until after their teams's seasons are over (unless the teams have given them permission to speak to the Canucks (and we would have heard rumors before now if that was the case)). Trying to shore up season ticket sales by firing people the day before renewals are due and have someone potentially ready to replace them before all candidates are available to be interviewed for the position is not the way to fix what's wrong with the franchise.
I point to ownership letting go unionized concession workers as well as the video of FA being in the 'War Room' closeted with Gillis during Trade Deadline day as my evidence that FA cares far more about profit than what's best for the hockey team. If they end up firing Torts at the end of the season as well as Gillis today, I'll feel somewhat better, but I've said it earlier in this thread, until FA announces that he's going to step back and let whoever he hires as GM do his job without much in the way of influence and follow through, whoever is hired is a lame duck GM that won't be much better than Gillis. |

I would love to see Linden in an executive position with the Canucks. I think he is a very savvy business person. I'm not saying I would like him to be in charge of player personnel, but a director of some kind would be good for the team me thinks. |

If that has any merit to it, that would mean that Torts truly has Aquilini's ear.

In which case pick another franchise to cheer for or another sport to follow, all togther. It makes you yearn for off-shore ownership. |
