It's not that I disagree with that comment, but I do think we're overstating the Aquillini influence here. It's true that meddling owners can be annoyingly involved in some key decisions, but to take it to other extreme and assume they're giving executive orders on:

- Every trade negotiation from start to finish
- Every draft pick selected
- Every UFA signing
- Every coach hiring (this one may be true)

then a good portion of the blame still sits with Gillis and a replacement can improve matters.

Whether a GM without full autonomy can ever achieve what they truly want is a different story, but our current situation most definitely can be improved with a more competent GM.

I put it all on Gillis, he should never let an owner get involved, he is gutless and a pu$$y, FA's biatch.

Yeah, if that's really the case he should have stepped away when FA nixed the Luongo deal, or hired Torts, or any one of the other hundred things.

That's just silly. If an owner wants to get involved they get involved. It's the benefit of owning a team. Gillis could quit or take his $8M buyout. Not much of a choice there.

If that has any merit to it, that would mean that Torts truly has Aquilini's ear.

But then he doesn't get the $8M the Aquilinis owe him! What better way to stick it to them than to hit them in the pocketbook?

He's less likely to get another hockey job getting fired for what seems like incompetence, than if he had walked away IMO

If we do that we may as well hire Feaster since we'll be replicating the Calgary Flames of recent years.

Gotta hand it to our fans, fairweather or not they vote with their wallet. If a franchise wants to succeed in this town, they need to roll out a good team.

You want to know what's really depressing? The best GM in our history is Pat Quinn, and the only reason he was so good was because it was a different time, he had a lot of favors owed to him by other GMs at the time and this was before Bettman. Everyone forgets that we only got Pavel Bure because Pat Quinn managed to use trickery to make it look like he played enough games to be draft-eligible. We got him in the 4th round when had he not been ruled eligible (after the fact) he might have gone high in the first round the next year and not been a Canuck.

Careful what you wish for. I had a feeling this sh!t would happen now. There's a decent chance it's gonna be a "yes man" for FA or someone who isn't suited for the job.

I know the process well. But what I want to know is if this is a bold move? Since the guy promising the bold move is moved.
