There are those that believe it's all Gillis, so we have turned the corner, it's all good now.

I heard that Gillis is flying to Toronto tomorrow to meet with Larry Tanenbaum.

@patersonjeff: Gillis 'good': Ehrhoff, Hamhuis, Tanev, (healthy) Malhotra, 2011 Higgins, Stanton, recent Kassian, (possibly) recent draft…

@patersonjeff: Gillis 'bad': goaltending, loyalty to aging/fading core, NTC, Sturm, Roy, Pahlsson, Booth, Ballard, public persona

- bloatedmosquito

and of the "good" only hamhuis is what I would consider part of their core (Tanev starting to work his way up) which reinforces my point that when people pointed out his "executive of the year" that it was on the back of what Burke/Nonis did for the organization. Gillis took a good team, added to it slightly and got to the cup final, then let the talent level erode away.

Gillis was not a good gm, and it could be argued his best asset was the Aquillini's chequebook.

He hasn't done anything for two years to improve the club and he's drafted poorly in rounds 2 thru 7. It was time for change, hopefully Tortorella is next.

So what do you think the challenge will be? Old School or Billy Madison styles?

Who would you have replace him?

Also, how does everybody in here feel now? Sigh of relief, or nervous about what's next?

If Feaster is GM maybe he will send out an offer sheet. Gilman can fill it out for him.

I don't want Linden, only because he is a huge Sedin fan and Torts could have maybe coaxed them to Brooklyn.

He followed Burke/Nonis and rode a core that was mostly assembled when he took the job until they just couldn’t do it on their own anymore. You're right, maybe TO should hire him. SC finals here they come.

I wasn't pro Gillis but I'm very worried at how a horrible GM could really set us back. If owners want to start trading picks and patching holes in the team for playoff revenue, it is a dangerous game.

Could be interesting. Smart hockey man, whether he'd make the jump to GM would be another thing.

I'm not convinced the Aquillinis have had such an extreme grip on this team's dealings that many are making out, but if the owners really do think they know hockey and insist on making the key decisions themselves then there's really not much we can discuss here. Just tune out, don't buy tickets or merchandise, and hope for new ownership to arrive in the future.

Burke had a good foundation when he took over the Canucks as well, Bure, Mogilny, Messier, Naslund, Bertuzzi, McCabe, Ohlund, Cooke before him.

The players that he (Gillis) inherited just happened to mature at the right time and he did make some good early additions to the club. Last couple of years has been terrible though, not to mention his poor drafting in the later rounds.

We discussed several names in the past - McNabb, Hextall, Julien BriseBois, Dudley. The first 2 seem to be getting the most traction amongst the people who have the least say in the decision - your friendly HB posters.

I won't retread on Gillis' accomplishments or failures but one thing is for sure, the next GM will inherit one heck of a complex problem.

Gonna take some doing to fix the contract situations and move a few players for sure.
