Gillis was 60 minutes from the same Cup, not a lot separates the two IMO.

60 minutes is a long time...

Like for instance Vantel has never made it "60" minutes...

One of my all time favourite players is Linden; however, there is no way he is experienced enough to assume any kind of GM role. He needs to be tutored for a few years just like Yzerman was with the Wings. That said, I would love to have him in any other capacity (other than coach).

All I ask is, whoever it is that eventually replaces Gillis, please, please please:

I think being a GM of a hockey team is, on many levels, a whole different world. I'm sure that Linden is business savvy (so are the Aquillini's, no? and yet here we are). I just think it would serve the team, management, and even Linden to get the proper experience before being thrown to the wolves.

Edit: please note I'm not saying that Linden couldn't assume that role now but I think it would be a mistake not to let him get the proper hockey managerial experience and be properly tutored/eased into that position down the road

Gillis did it with less hockey experience than Linden.

Linden could step in and keep Gilman for cap, hire a slick assistant experienced GM and Bobs your uncle. I think he has been around hockey long enough and is very familiar with hockey ops.

Being an agent has a lot more managerial dynamic to it, so I disagree with your comparison. In fact, an agent involves many of the same aspects as a GM would have - the ability to negotiate, structure deals, manage and properly assess your assets (clients), have an excellent understanding of current/future market conditions and act/strategize accordingly, and to even have at least a rudimentary understanding of the salary cap. Finally, an agent needs to maintain workable/productive relationships with other teams' managerial groups. Pretty much sums up most of the variables that a GM would have.

Of note as well, most (if not all) experienced hockey people would seek the GM position outright and unlikely to settle for an Assistant GM role, where the scenario would be more akin to holding someone's hand than having the full authority that a GM has.

Lastly, I just don't want to see a hockey icon thrown to the wolves, in such a difficult market as Vancouver

Ferraro is convinced Linden is the President tomorrow, he's pretty tight with Washington GM George McPhee. (Linden)

Can't figure out why Trevor Linden, who is a golden god in this city, would want to attach his name to the hot mess that this franchise has become with no hockey operations experience whatsoever.

I could see him coming in as an assistant to somebody to get groomed for position, but not going in dry like everybody assumes he is...

Is this guy legit with rumours? I'm on board with this. I doubt he'd hire Feaster or McPhee. And hiring a more experienced President makes it easier to hire a first time GM.

Edit: Linden as GM?!?
