I am to lazy to read all of the comments after a 12 hr day so... FA and company thought outside the box when they hired Gillis and I thing they will do so again. That said I would like to say thank you to Gillis for his best effort at trying to put a Stanley cup winning team together. I know he had the best intentions. Good moves and bad moves he did okay. If I were him I would't look a this firing as a failure. For all the negatives the guy has a great hockey mind and vision. I wish him and his family the best in the future.

Gillis wasn't that bad IMO, I'm really curious to hear the full story down the road about how much ownership interfered. I hope I'm wrong about them making him look worse than he was.

Add in Babcock as coach and I'll start planning the Cup parade route.

Well said, and the same can be said about Vigneault. I think people will always focus on the negatives (and yes, there were quite a few - in particular the last few years) but there was certainly also a lot of success and, most importantly, exciting and fast-paced hockey under that tandem. I wish them both well (in terms of Gillis, he was beginning to look more and more like road-kill and a major candidate for a stroke so perhaps in his case it's a blessing in disguise)

Me too I liked the guy. I have a feeling we will hear he slowly lost the reigns and FA took more and more control over time. That is just opinion not a fact but I know people with money and they always want to get their hands dirty. Money is power it doesn't mean power is always smart.

AV had a lot of success. I didn't not like his coaching stye much the same as I don't like Torts style too defensive and boring. While I respect both and there accomplishments I still don't like their style. If they were to win us a cup I still wouldn't like the type of hockey but I would love the cup win.
I thought Gillis should have fired AV that was his first mistake in my book.

and of the "good" only hamhuis is what I would consider part of their core (Tanev starting to work his way up) which reinforces my point that when people pointed out his "executive of the year" that it was on the back of what Burke/Nonis did for the organization. Gillis took a good team, added to it slightly and got to the cup final, then let the talent level erode away.

Gillis was not a good gm, and it could be argued his best asset was the Aquillini's chequebook.

Hamhuis might be the only part you consider as part of the core, but he, Ehrhoff, Malhotra and Tanev were all part of what made him Executive of the Year in 2011. Regardless of what he did since, he did a great job setting up that season.

I don't think MLSE could afford to do that, as deep as those pockets are.

They might want to re-think that strategy. If Toronto lose tonight they're out of yet another postseason.

Nonis is a mediocre GM. He played it smart not trading the Sedins, Schneider, kesler, Edlet, etc when he was here, but traded 2nd and 3rd rounders for scrubs, had a pretty subpar draft record as well. Luongo trade as great, but apparently Keenan as going to go with another offer but ownership ties his hands so Nonis kinda lucked out on that one.

Yeah. Nonis is brutal. At least he has the core locked up.

I hope the new GM offer sheets Schenn ROR Subban or another high profile RFA
- VANTEL

Offer sheets are useless. I hope he pulls off a few trades. If the new GM watched any of the last game Kesler and Edler will both be moved by the draft. And Tortorella will be fired before the ink's dry on the contract.

I thought the Lu trade was all Keenan. Anyways, I always felt one of DN's better moves was signing Mitchell.

Yeah, that was a good one, but similar to Hamhuis/Garrison. The guy's first choice as definitely to play here.

I'd hire Kruger as a coach. I don't think he got a fair shake in Edmonton.
