Vantel. Wanna comment on the Sedins grade? - Linden_4_Capt
This should make it much easier to trade Edler for a top 6. |

It's only Wednesday. I was up by a similar score on Ser Hogs a lot Friday and he ended up taking it home on Saturday. |

Above all I think at this point we need someone who knows people around the league. Gillis was an outsider and I think it hurt him in trade situations.
I'm not saying we need a dinosaur that's been passed around forever, but I think a current AGM, like many that were mentioned yesterday, should be explored to the fullest extent. If Linden becomes Prez he should absolutely take his time and interview. - AlexF
I would hope that contract negotiations on UFA and RFA continue even without the GM in place. I would hate to lose Tanev, Kassian or Santo due to the inefficiencies of out management and ownership. |

This means that he will oversee all of these things, but he will hire people to do all of these things. Technically he is responsible for ticket sales, but he will have a director of marketing (or already does), etc etc.
I think its a good position for him, more of an ambassador. |

It is really sad that of out top 6 only 1 player is rated somewhat decent at B-. Our goalie is a C-. I guess it does not matter who the GM or prez is if we don't change the team we are franked. |

Lawrence Gillman handled most of this anyway and he's staying on. Business as usual. |

Yeah that's what I figured. An intelligent person surrounds themselves with competent people. Linden if nothing else is intelligent.
I imagine the GM will be bringing in many of his guys (especially scouting) to fill in some of these positions. |

I think it is a bit strange when many on here are so excited about change but I don't see how much better it can be going from Gillis, who many say was an outsider because he didn't pay his dues in the front office or toiling in an organization, to Linden or Nicholson who haven't had any NHL front office experience... (Not really sure about Nicholson's past beyond hockey Canada).
Gillis' negative was he was a player agent. Linden representing the pa may have rubbed some owners/gms the wrong way in the past.
Does everyone love Bob Nicholson? Do teams outside of Canada really care about him or hold him in high regard? Does anyone consider him an insider or part of that old boys club/network?
It seemed with our drafting we would see more going off the table and not the safe pick and this often hurt us, I think there must be a safer pick for GM of the team?

So is Linden GM? If not, wouldn't the new GM want to have a say in all these responsibilities and who he would like to see doing them and have a vision for the team and future?
Me of little faith. |

Why do you think our scouting is deficient? We have dreaded fairly well and scored some decent off the radar talent. |

The guy knows hockey. He can phone up Lou and have the right conversation. He can phone stevie Y and reminisce about hockey Canada and pull a trade |

It's all about organizational hierarchy. Someone has to be at the top. While Linden is "responsible" for all of these things, he doesn't actually do all of them. He won't be the one negotiating with other GM's on player trades, or selecting players at the draft, or hiring the scouting staff, or the head coach. Yes, he will have a say in all those things, but the new GM will ultimately decide on the coaching staff etc.
Bob Nicholson is connected, I'm sure he knows every NHL GM well he has been in charge of Hockey Canada for years, seen all of these great players come up from minor hockey across the country to represent Canada at every national event etc etc. I'm not saying he's the best candidate for the job, but the Canucks could do a lot worse. |

Nicholson?
I could see Nicholson being president of the club, but not GM. Wasn't all the decision making of Olympic players and such Yzerman and Gretz and their groups?
Did Nicholson play? He seems like a guy who surrounded himself with capable people. But how much of the work and vision was his?
Just don't see Nicholson as a GM any more than anyone else that is available.

I can see him having talked to GM's in the past, not sure how much Owners like Wang have time for him.
I can see what everyone likes about him on his resume, but it just seems like a different dynamic. Just too easy for media to intertwine stories/match maker and suggest connections that aren't always there - just like a rumor site.
