If Naslund becomes GM I'm quitting. Cancel cable and forget about hockey until the Canucks sell. - Marwood
I don't know why some mention Nicholson as GM. Pres maybe.
wouldn't want Linden as GM either. (needs a little front office experience)
Thinking they should not rush into anything. I think they rushed into firing MG. Too many egos at play. |

How about this "Guy" to replace torts? - Chest Rockwell
God no.
The only coach capable of minimizing our offense worse then Torts. |

Maybe because there simply are more Canadian hockey players in general? As far as core players.....LA had Kopitar, Quick, Brown. CHI had Hossa and Kane. Detroit was basically all Euro. Pitt has Malkin. NJ went to the SCF with Elias, Parise, etc. Canucks went to the SCF with the Sedins, and Kesler.
A guy like Toews is a damn good player, but then you have good old hard working Canadians that go all out like Dany Heatley, Dustin Penner, etc....right? - Nucker101
I may not agree with the having a canadian core but you also forgot some names which are apart of their cores.
Chicago = Toews Sharp Kieth Seabrook
LA = Richards, Doughty, Carter

What are the chances of you wishing on what a few would call the best case scenario and it all coming true? - hillbillydeluxe
Realistically it'll be something in between, worst case scenario is Jay Feaster. Just look at how he handled the botched offer-sheet to ROR....holy (frank) man |

I want Nicholson for Pres. and leave it up to him to hire the GM. I think Nicholson has some pretty good connections in the hockey world and would trust him to bring in the right guy.
Plus he is from Penticton. Home town discount. |

Completely disagree. Offense was never the issue with Boucher. It was the defense. His system ties the pairing together in a lot of ways and creates huge gaps in coverage. I still love the guy though. Class act.
EDIT - With a more mobile defense core than TB had at the time, Boucher could be a good fit. |

Doubtful. He's been on the hot seat for a year. More than a few of us thought he'd be gone this summer. This comes a bit earlier but does make sense to do it prior to the draft. |

Everyone needs to just chillax, this is only the beginning. Botch is reporting they've probably already got a replacement, we'll see what tomorrow brings. |

Not saying you can't. Just pointing out that offense isn't necessarily an issue with Boucher. |

It makes sense if they did. It's only prudent to be scouring the options when you feel it's time for a change in direction. |

It has nothing to do with egos. It has everything to do with $.
Season ticket sales have vaporized. Maybe FA will give us that "it only takes a quarter to move this team" speech.
FA will need to switch out 'quarter' for 'sim card' to make it relevent for today's crowd. |

Agree about the hot seat. Just wondering how much ownership influence there has been?
If Torts' hiring was on ownership decision then who knows how much GMMG is to blame for what played out on the ice.
How tied were Gillis' hands? How much did he tie them? Too many ntc's for sure.
Ownership push for keeping core intact as much as possible? Nix trades?
Ownership responsible for Lou's salary?
He had screwed up of late (Booth, Ballard, Lou & Schnieder) but I wonder if it is a cycle anyway. Just like people like to point out Nonis' fingerprints on the team that made the cup run that we may see similar credit given to MG if some of these recent draft picks pan out. |

Again, no matter who they hire as GM might not be better if not worse than Gillis if he doesn't get the authority/autonomy to make the best decisions possible to turn the franchise around. That's more important at this point then anything, and with this move, it smacks of reaction more than having a plan in place. Why now of all times and have a GM ready to go the next day? Why not wait until the end of the season and have an actual hiring process where all available candidates are interviewed? You realize that most of the ones we've discussed that would be great candidates are under contract until the end of the playoffs? If they have someone in mind and are going to announce it tomorrow it's not one of them.

I just don't know why but I just don't have a good feeling about this. I was pretty happy when AV was gone, and even when Luongo was gone. But this move gives me mixed feelings. |

sooo the rangers won the torts-AV trade?? - rangerdanger94
Wait for the playoffs to decide that. AV fails every year to make adjustments after the other teams coach does.

If we didn't hear Gillis go off on Thursday, I am not sure he would have been fired today. Maybe the summer...
Guessing ownership run the team like they run their other businesses. They want to have a firm grip on decisions and provide direction and be active in the process.
(Listening to Team1040 and they are talking about team identity. The Torts hiring does not fit the personnel. Who chose Torts. If it was MG, he should be gone because he didn't bring in any Torts' type of players. If it was FA, how many more decisions were FA's and not MG's?)

We said the same thing to Leafs fans about Raymond, once the games get more intense we've seen what these guys can and can't do. They'll see soon enough, but lucky for them the East is wide open after Bos/Pit. |
