They aren't a random 20 games. They are the stretch of games where he has played at Center, and when he was healthy. In fact both the 22 game stretch before the back injury, and the 20 most recent games, are both stretches of games where he was healthy, and played at Center. And both stretches of games support my opinion that it was the back injury and the change in position that rendered Lecavalier ineffective for a stretch. And not that he just wasn't a good player, and it was a bad signing. Nothing random about it. - MJL
He's been playing center the 20 most recent games???? Wow, that's surprising, since he was taken off of Schenn's wing and moved to the 4C spot 8 games ago. How'd he do that? |

Lecavalier just scored 20 goals for the 13th time in his career. And has scored over 400 goals in this League. Calling anything about his goal scoring ability, luck, is complete BS.
Even if his shooting percentage went down 3% or so closer to his career norm of 11-12%, he'd still be scoring goals at a significant level.
Lecavalier is not the only player responsible for that line being poor defensively. So that point is moot.
Provide some facts that support that every player on the team has worse numbers wheh they're with Lecavalier. Adam Hall's offensive numbers seem to be rising to me, since playing with Lecavalier. So that fact is obviously false.
Lecavalier seems to be doing just fine centering the 4th line. So saying that the Flyers can't find a home for him, is also false obviously.
Not many facts there, just spin. - MJL
I never said his goal scoring ability is luck. I said his shooting percentage being this high is lucky. If he were shooting his usual 12%, he'd have 15 goals.
Schenn is also weak defensively, but somehow he has an even +/-. They see close to the same quality of competition, but Schenn sees more defensive zone face-offs. In fact, Vinny sees the fewest rate of defensive zone face-offs of all Flyers who have played 41+ games.

The only valid point you make is that Vinny has found a home. Just where he should be. On the 4th line.

Just curious, but do you think allocating 4.5 million dollars of cap space for a 4th line center who plays on the 2nd pp unit a wise use of cap space? - BiggE
Going forward for next year, for the Flyers. No it wouldn't be. |

He [Ghost] also tied Boston College defenseman Steven Santini for the lead among defenders with a plus-28 rating, is a finalist for ECAC Best Defensive Defenseman and made the top 10 in voting for the Hobey Baker Award.

I have never once refuted that the defensive side of the puck is not a strong suit of Lecavalier's. I'll stipulate to save time. He's not a good defensive forward. He is an offensive player. And it's what he has been all his career. Funny thing about +/-. Lots of false positives and negatives involved. And Lecavalier should see the lowest amount of defensive zone draws on the team. That's using a player properly. That's not a negative towards the player. He is what he is.
Here's the bottom line. Lecavalier is still a very good player in this League. And he's shown that when he's healthy, and playing the right position. But certainly not without his limitations. But most players on the team have limitations. And his detractors who dismissed the injury and the position change, simply had it wrong. |

Don't forget it was a different era in 89-90, scoring 20 in that era was about the same as scoring 12-15 today. - BiggE
Oh, no doubt.
I was just intrigued by some of the parallels.
Homer was a coach on that team. Both teams started off terribly. Berube was a player on that team. |

I really think he will be centering the 2nd line next season. I have a feeling Flyers are going to try to land a good defenseman at B. Schenn's expense. |

When you say his detractors simply had it wrong, be sure to lump in Berube for playing him out of position for half a season, and the Flyers crack medical staff for allowing him to play with what was diagnosed as back spasms, when it was a fracture.

I doubt the injury the had much to do with it. He sat for over 3 weeks during the Olympic break to return to play. He never officially said that he was dealing with an injury. |

He's either going to win the Vezina or be 2nd. I think its a pretty significant drop from him to Lindback. |
