In order for Nonis to save his job, he should trade JVR for a third pairing defenseman. - PLindbergh31
I hope Schenn becomes a top pairing defenseman just so you shut the (frank) up about this trade.
Try going a week without mentioning it.
I bet you still call your 4th grade girlfriend and complain about how she kissed another boy playing spin the bottle.

They need someone to play with Coburn if Kimmo retires. - Feanor
If Kimmo retires, they will need to go after a guy like Niskanen. He may not be a top pairing guy, but he will be able to hold things together with Coburn. |

Niskanen makes me nervous. I'm always wary of guys who have a "breakout" year prior to becoming a UFA. Unless they win the cup, I think Kimmo comes back for one more year and in that case problem solved. If he does retire however, I think they try to fill the void via trade rather than overpay for Niskanen or any other questionable UFA. |

They have a #2 defenseman already, in MacDonald. |

He mixed it up with the Dan Line once. He opened up a tired Dan Lacroix in a fight, but this was after Lacroix had already gone with and engaged Andrei Nazarov, who was pretty much a large Russian bear of a dude.
I just never liked Tucker and thought he was a punk. - johndewar
He was one of the first 3 hockey players I ever hated.
Just picture little 7ish year old GiG running around playing hockey in his driveway, consistently beating a team of Kasparaitis, Tucker, and Domi |

I wouldn't go after a player like Niskanen personally. He's not a player that I would want to put into the role that Timonen plays. |

I don't think there are many players readily available that can replace what kimmo brings |

Or they could make a trade.
Maybe Edler or someone becomes available. |

That's the problem. But I don't think that the Flyers should sign a UFA to a big deal that is basically another Mark Streit type of player. They need to use the assets they have to try and acquire an all stuations top pairing defenseman. And if they can't, then I'd elevate the players they already have, and sign a stop gap role playing defenseman. And bide my time. |

They can fill the void however they'd like. Without Kimmo, there will be a void.
I think a similar player to Niskanen is Jason Garrison. Garrison had a breakout year with the Panthers and has given the Canucks what they expected. He's not having as good of a year as last year, but he's still a top 4 D.
Niskanen is having a better year than Garrison had before his FA. Niskanen has, also, shown to be a good player in the past. His problem has always been consistency.
There is definitely some bust potential with Niskanen, but I think he'd work well with our glut of big, slow defensive defenseman. |

A very real possibility.
By the time that team is competitive again, he'll be 30+. He definitely could be shipped out. I imagine he'd cost a fortune though. |

I really like Ehrhoff. He's signed to a very friendly deal and I feel his style of play will allow him to age gracefully. He would be the ideal replacement for Kimmo. |

He's very solid.
Plays all situations.
Long contract but fair value.
I think the Sabres won't move him unless they are blown away with an offer. |

I wonder if the Jets would make Enstrom available.
If he was would any of you be interested if a fair value trade could be made? |

Still has a great reach, which will allow him to adjust well to the new new style of the NHL. |

I feel like having Streit restricts the team from going after guys who are offensive defenseman.
They signed Streit for offense and to run the PP when Kimmo retires. |
