If he has a career ending injury, he won't retire. - MJL
Yeah, it will be like Pronger. He'll be on career LTIR and will collect his check each year (unless he goes to Montreal, then he'll collect his cheque). |

I don't think that Ehrhoff is in the same class as Timone is defensively, as a #1 shut down defender. That's why I don't see him as a direct replacement for Timonen. I think Ehrhoff would certainly upgrade the Flyers defense as a whole. - MJL
I think Ehrhoff is better offensively at this point. |

I just don't know what the right deal is. The cost of defenseman is incredibly high. I think thats why Homer has decided to use FA. - PhillySportsGuy
I all honesty, as long as Timonen comes back, I don't think that I would overpay in a trade or via free agency. I would just re-sign MacDonald, as long as his demands aren't ridiculous, and go with the 6 we have now.
To me, the group we have now is fine as long as the forwards backcheck and keep the gaps short. Too much emphasis is put on the failings of our dmen when often it is the defensive shortcomings of our forwards that get us into trouble.
If Simmonds, B. Schenn, VL, and Voracek were to each worker a little harder at their defensive positioning and coverage, the Flyers D would look a whole lot better. |

What would you think of a top pair of Coburn-Streit? Coburn's our best all-around defender and could help out with some of Streit's defensive shortcomings when matched against top competition. - jmatchett383
The idea of Streit matching up against top lines terrifies me!

I would be OK with bringing back the same unit. I would definitely look to upgrade though. This team really needs a top pairing defenseman badly. I would look high and low and turn over every rock. |

Oh, I agree. But he's your only real "offensive" defenseman if Kimmo goes. Unless you want to overpay in a trade or in FA for one, the only other options is to hope that Ghostisbehere comes into camp and blows you away, and I think that's a longshot at best. |

Interesting. I don't know if I would like to rely on that as my absolute top pair.
That is a possibility though, worst case scenario. |

You'd have to basically reduce Coburn's offensive game to nil for protection, but that could be offset if we can get all 4 lines to buy into backchecking with more vigor more often. |

Ehrhoff's deal expires at age 37. I don't see him retiring early unless an injury occurs. That can happen at any point with either team. - PhillySportsGuy
No it doesn't. It expires in June 2021 and he will turn 39 on July 6th of that year.

I don't see why he will feel compelled to play for a paltry $1 million in the 20-21 season. |

Weekend spending money. Even though it's not much relative to the rest of his deal, it's still $1M. |

Maybe. I really doubt Kimmo would be playing for us this season as a 38/39 year old if he was only getting a million bucks. |

Probably not. But it's a bit different (to me) when you already have the contract as opposed to going year-to-year. |

Not to mention what 1M will be as a comparitive salary in the League, 7 years from now. Not going to be real motivating for him to play for that chump change. |
