No, if they end up with the Penguins, they'd play the winner of NYR/CBS. Likewise, if they play NYR, they'll play the winner of Pit/CBS. The 1-2-3 seeds are locked in the conference semis bracket, along with the wildcard team that each division winner plays. You don't play the 1/2/3 seed of the other division until the Conference Finals. - jmatchett383
Right. These playoffs are a straight Bracket when the matchups are set. That's the easiest way to think about it |

Since Nashville is eliminated from playoffs, do you think Shea Weber is thinking "Damn I wish Nashville didn't match that offer sheet" - J35Bacher
I imagine he's wearing his gold medal while checking his bank balance and thinking "not a bad year at all". |

I'll tell you what, based on that last game, that Panthers team has nothing to hang their heads about. They played their asses off in that game. The Flyers just outscored them. They didn't outplay them. - MJL
Out of all the crap young teams I like the panthers kids the most |

Unfortunately the Flyers don't match up against the Rangers very well. They're quicker, have better goaltending. I'd much rather see Pitt. |

Well, I'd just like to send out a big ol cup of GFY to Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy, Sean Gentille at The Sporting News, and all the other media assclowns who enjoyed ripping Orange Jesus when he promised the Faithful a trip to the playoffs.
Lambert and Gentille especially stood out as Hockey Hipster versions of Statler & Waldorf because of the glee which with they ripped the Flyers.

The Penguins are quicker and have better goaltending. No?
I think the Rangers play a system and stick to it which always gives us fits. The Penguins are more loose in their style. Suits us better. |

So, a question -- and there's no right or wrong answers; just looking for other opinions.
Obviously, no one really wants to play Boston in the first round. So it's pretty understood that you do what you have to do to avoid that.
But if you were running the Flyers, how would you handle the next three games, personnel-wise?
Would you dress your regular lineup for all three games, knowing that injuries happen in professional sports? Or would you give Gus and Gill playing time and rest some combination of Coburn, Timonen, Streit and Grossmann? How would you do that?
Would you rest Giroux or Hartnell or Voracek?
How about Mason? Would he start 1 of the 3, or two of the three? (You assume he won't play both ends of the back-to-back).
Again, no right or wrong answers. Just curious how everyone would approach it, if everyone thinks consistency is best, or avoiding Boston is best, or avoiding injury/resting players is best. |

I'd be inclined to give Mason a little rest, but not the rest of the team. They aren't clicking on all cylinders, and they need to ramp it up and get back to where they were a few weeks ago. |

Try and keep firing on all cylinders. Would look to get on a roll going into the playoffs. Unless someone is extremely banged up then I would sit them. |

I'd play Mason Saturday and give Emery the start Thursday and Sunday. I'd keep the roster how it is. Possibly rest a few players on Sunday, depending where they are in the Standings.

I don't think we can say the Pens have better goaltending until we know how Mase does in the playoffs with this team and we know if the flower will ever find a wall to put in his head to keep the Flyers out of it. |

Rest anyone who is nicked or tuckered out. Will series start Tuesday? If not, two days off should help anyone else be ready for the first round. I don't know about resting Mase more than a game. I always worry that rust is worse than wear on a goalie.

He's probably just wishing Rinne didn't get injured.

Emery should start in Pittsburgh. Other than that they need to play the top guys every night and keep wining to stay out of the second wildcard spot. |

So, as folks last night on the broadcast were noting, the Flyers hadn't had 7 20-goal scorers since the 1989-90 season.
I looked up that season as I knew it was around the start of the "Dark Times" but I wasn't quite sure.
In short, that entire season was a disaster and was the first year of missing the playoffs for a few years:

FYI: Coach Paul Holmgren was there for that debacle and Clarkie seemingly traded his way out of a job. |

So I read an interesting article on BSH (I think) a while back that had an interesting overtime scenario. Do it like College Football OT, sort of.
Have each team get a 5 on 3 situation (not sure on a time limit) and whoever scores fastest wins. I'm not completely sold on the idea. But I think it is a lot better than the shootout. At least it involves team play. |
