Great PR move for a team in ruins. I want to see who the GM is and Torts better be gone. None of this will matter if the roster is the same in September. There is going to be a lot of pressure on the the new GM to change the roster and culture of this team in very short time frame.

This.

Ya I don't think that'll be the case, today is all about Linden. I honestly thought Nicholson may be announced, but I'm ok with this.

Lets be honest. This is the main reason Canucks fans are excited about the Linden hiring:

Yeah, that was bad, but what was worse was to hear him say he wouldn't ask anyone with ntc's to waive them.

So if he made a mistake giving one out, he had no intention of addressing his mistakes.

All in the past now. What makes the future interesting is that in taking stock of the team's roster and contracts, the new GM could conceivably ask anyone to waive which is something I never felt possible for certain players under MG.

Classy guy, all heart? sure.

I am not excited yet. Waiting to see how it unfolds. Feeling like we may start moving from one disaster to the next without ever getting ahead.

I just want Torts and his system gone and see a coach that can coach our prospects, show some patience and adapt behind the Canucks bench. I may be asking too much.

A NTC gives you the option of vetoing a trade to a team you don't want to go to. It shouldn't prevent a GM from even discussing a potential trade.

That's part of it, but I like Linden's demeanour, I can't see him losing his nut in a press conference. I can't see him throwing someone else under the buss for organizational failures. Now, as President, he's not necessarily going to be the guy in front of the mic, but I think he is a smart business person and will be good for the future of the franchise.

Maybe for the casual fan, I happen to think Linden is a bright youngish hockey mind who's a respected member of the NHL fraturnity. From a Presidential stand-point I think he'll be good at it, my opinion certainly differs with respect to General Managing.

Linden might actually be the buffer between FA and the new GM that we all are hoping for. Should have hired a FBI Hostage Negotiator.

Linden is my all time favorite player. The last thing I want to see is him fail and have this whole situation get worse. Linden has the potential to look like hero, but if he fails its going to look bad.

His first decision (hiring a GM) will be his biggest. It will make or break him as a front office guy.

For what it's worth...

Told the Canucks did not speak with Bob Nicholson. His name will surface in NHL based on experience and availability. Rest is his priority.

I'm fine with a smart guy like Linden as Prez. But Naslund as GM scares the poop outta me.

Either were fine as choices for the position, GM hire is so crucial though. Hopefully Linden hires who thinks is the best man for the job, not just his buddy Naslund.

I wonder if Gallagher's right and Shanny/Benning are on the top of his shortlist.

I think the best is when the owner just stays the hell away and hires competent people.

Agreed. Really hope he does the due diligence and interviews the Bennings, McNabbs, Hextalls, etc. This doesn't need to be a snap decision.

Naslund is too close with a lot of players on the roster to make it a good situation. He played with the guys that need to waive there NTC and be traded out.

Not sure what to think of Shanaban, but I agree on the other 3.
