Per Panaccio, Berube says if the Flyers face a must win for 3rd place, he will start Mason in both remaining games, rather than rotate - Jsaquella
I guess they don't want to risk getting embarrassed by the Broons in the playoffs. |

I just hope Mason plays every playoff game. If they lose the first two games of the series, and he doesn't play particularly well, starting Emery wouldn't make sense. No need to go down that road. - PLindbergh31
I would think they wouldn't go down that road, would hope they wouldn't.
We all want to win here, and I've said before that I'd like for Ray Emery to return, as the backup.
But Mason is clearly the better goalie now, at this point in their careers. He simply is, and TBH, the Flyers need to see what Mason is in the playoffs, win or lose, all the way |

Shouldn't have ever let him go - PhillySportsGuy

Also, I'm gonna guess that CBJ wins tonight vs. TBL. |

They'll be competitive against NYR and I definitely give them a puncher's chance to win the series.
I think Boston would sweep them. |

Huh.
Well...huh. Guess you gotta do what you feel is best, but the math says that you'd actually be better served not doing it that way, but Chief gets to do what he feels is best - AllInForFlyers

Perhaps not. |

I actually disagree. I think the Flyers will give fits to any team they play. If they turn it up a notch as I expect they will do for the playoffs. They have shown they can play or outplay any team in this league. That intensity they brought to those games will be there next week!! |

Thats what scares me, I have had the feeling that Berube has been getting Emery ready just in case. It wont work. Emery will not be the 2nd coming of Michael Leighton 2010. lol - GOA88
I hope not. I hope it's just the idea of having Mason as fresh as possible to start the playoffs. |

Emery has played well at times. His lateral movement isn't great, but most backups are rather pedestrian, it's why they are backups. I wouldn't be opposed to Emery coming back on another one year deal, but I would also keep my options open. |

It (frank)ing better be. I have faith that Mason is going to bring his A game. Like the Mason that didnt allow more than 3 goals in a game for what? Like 25-26 straight games? Sporting a .933 s%? He has the ability |

The mistake was playing Emery last night. Making Mason do a double shift isn't going to undo the mistake he already made. |

I like him as backup. I just cant stand when he is in net against top teams. Makes no sense to me. |

I've liked what I've seen from Mason this year. I think he's done a really nice job. |

The Bruins...they're a different beast right now, because they can play any number of styles, and at the end of it, you still have to score more against Rask than they get against you. That's not going to be an easy trick -- Rask is that damn good
But, to be honest -- and I don't want to sound crazy -- but I'm not going to view this playoffs as anything other than more learning for the young players.
I thought it was imperative that they make it, and they did. But we're playing with house money right now -- the second line isn't settled, we don't know how Mason looks in a playoff series...I'm just viewing this as a development path for some of the players.

There's several cheaper options that will be as good as Emery.
I like Ray. He's turned his career around after two major roadblocks, one self inflicted the other injury, and done a very good job for the Flyers this season. Guys like Curtis McIlhenney, Chad Johnson, Thomas Greiss or Jonas Gustavsson are all UFA.
Might not have Emery's track record as a starter, but all are capable back ups |

I have no illusions of this team making any sort of run.
I'll enjoy the extra Flyers hockey, though.

I get the logic behind it. Emery had good numbers vs Tampa in his career and they probably wanted to make sure Mason was rested and ready to go in the playoffs. Emery was a factor last night, but not primary reason they lost. |
