Not really you don't. Here in Detroit, we have quite a few ourselves. With the Wings situation this year of only making the playoffs as a wild card, along with how bad the Wings played at times, despite the huge injury factor this year, a great many fans want both Coach Babcock and GM Holland fired. It amazes me at how many fans who think that because they go to the games or watch them on tv, automatically think they know as much or more about running a team than the guys that have been doing it for years. And it looks like it's the same everywhere else. On one Wings message board, there's a Wings fan from San Jose who thinks Babcock is totally incompetent as a coach. Why? Because that person plays floor hockey and by doing so, he says he's developed a knowledge of hockey that gives him insight on how a team needs to be coached. Plus, many fans have this need to be gratified by their team winning. It makes them feel good. And when they don't win, they get mad because it didn't go the way that they, the fans expected and so, they point fingers of blame at players, coaches, gm's, anybody. And despite denials, most fans expect their team to win every game. Even though it's virtually impossible. - Wingsfan61 Post of the year.

Miller was pretty damn solid last night. How do you expect to win if you don't score? I don't know who could blame Miller for last night. He has been pretty average the last couple games and even he admitted it. |

Miller is an elite, world class goalie.
But having played, coached, officiated and watched hockey for 40+ years, I'll add that goalies always look way better playing on bad teams. It's easy to look good when you're seeing 40 shots a night. If you stand on your head, you're a hero. If you get beat, that's what's expected. Much harder to look good playing for a high end team like the Blues, especially one strong defensively.
I'll be interested to see what the Blues do in goal after the season. I believe both netminders are UFAs after the season, and Miller will probably be looking to move west. |

Meh, couldn't disagree more. Seems like you've got this completely backwards Mr. 40+ years... If a goalie looks good on a bad team it's more than likely because he is in fact a good goalie. It's always easier for a goalie to look better than he actually is on a good team. Especially a good defensive team.
Having said that, no goalie in the league is good enough to withstand lack of offensive production from his teammates. |

The Sabres are 2-15-1 in their last 18 games and scored 25 goals during that stretch. Now thats depressing. |

I counted about 4-5 breakaways tonight. One by a defensemen and in case you forgot the Blues out up a goose egg once again.
If you are looking to watch a goalie make an acrobatic save because they were out of position to begin with, go watch a Kings game.
Miller is all about positioning. - sbroads24
Miller's a great goalie. Please don't ruin your post by showing your lack of knowledge about the game, especially goal tending. |

Have some faith Blues fans........Miller still has a chance to be your hero. You all know he has to be looking forward to the opportunity. I will be pulling for him to show everyone he deserves the hype.........unless he's playing the Kings of course. Good luck going forward guys and please get past Chi. I can't handle another post season filled with Hawks fans |

Please excuse my colleague getting loose and intruding on your blog. C'mon bud, we're here to take you back. Remember what we always say, let the other fans have their fun tearing up their own teams. Don't try to give them false hope or sympathize. They're not like us and there's nothing you can do for them. Apologies again everyone, he's obviously young and hasnt learned yet how to spot a San Jose troll, or to savor a rival imploding w/out mercy, or...well, you know, the basics of how the Wings roll and roll and roll. |

LOL at Kings fans thinking it has something to do with the Olympics and not a comparison of the styles of Miller and Quick which are both different.
He never hated on Quick or said anything about the Olympics. Quit getting so defensive. Quick often has poor positioning and has to rely on his reflexes and agility to make acrobatic saves. Miller rarely if ever does that. |

out of position??? pretty clueless are't you. You guys are still bitter about the Olympics and rightly so, bitter about your team. I understand your plight! |

Obviously you cannot say Miller is THE reason we are losing games, but you can see he has not been good. Of course you need to score to win, and if you get shutout you can't win. With that being said, there is no reason people shouldn't be critical of Miller's play. |

He's not totally wrong, it depends on the goalie himself. Some are much better on weaker teams facing a lot of shots but have a harder time on a good team facing few shots. Some goalies can handle not facing a lot of shots but still keep themselves in the game physically and mentally. I think if you asked them if they would prefer playing a game where the scoring chances were exactly the same but one they would face 30+ shots and the other 15 shots, I think you could be surprised how many would say they would want the 30+ shots instead. Not all shots are scoring chances or hard saves and those that are not help keep the goalies warmed up and keep their heads in the game.
Like I said, it depends on the goalie...some can keep themselves physically and mentally in a game without much action and others can't. |

One thing Blues fans will have to get used to is: It is never Miller's fault. He can give up 4 goals on 13 shots and it still isn't his fault. Goalies are paid to bail the defense out once in a while except Ryan Miller. It will be the teams fault if you lose 7-6 (they should have scored 8). I am so glad he is gone. He will be 34 in a few months and people still say he is elite. I am not sure he ever really was. Good Luck in the playoffs. |

Miller has sucked, I don't care what people say, he has sucked.
You wanna know why Miller was brought in? So he could make that big save in the situation where our D needed to be bailed out. Aside from the Philly game, he has yet to do that. I've seen plenty of games where Halak/Elliott made a big save that kept our team in it. Miller just keeps letting goals in.
Those that are acting like Miller shouldn't receive any blame are delusional. They consider him an elite goalie, well then shouldn't an elite goalie be able to step up at the right time?
Miller has been mediocre at best with the Blues. - bacheesh
bacheesh,
Sit down and listen to me: You did not see what you saw. Miller is elite. He hasn't won a playoff series in 7 years, but he is elite. It wasn't his fault. It is always the teams fault and never his. Learn these simple rules and you will be able to enjoy having Miller on your team. I never did.

Your opinion. Blues fans need a dose of reality and a smack to the back of the head sometimes. - Randall_Ritchey
When things are going well, the "passion" of the fan is applauded. The team gathers at center ice, taps their sticks and salutes the fans for their "fanaticism". Right?
Isn't that what defines fan? Short for fanatic??
So, when things go terribly wrong, the same passionate fanatic is going to continue to voice his opinion in a passionate way, yet somehow now he's just stupid.
The things that make a fan a fanatic are the same characteristics that get criticized.
I despise all of the "level-headed" media types who rail about talking Blues' fans down off the ledge, and telling them to "calm down" and "quit panicking"....
Leave 'em alone. Their passion is what pays the bills.
You certainly don't want a building full of 20,000 level-heads.
What fun would that be?
Strickland was one of the worst all time of elevating himself above the masses, this blog can be filed right along side his, IMO.
