Anyone watch the NCAA championship tonight
Fasching again looked slow to me, definitely needs work on his skating... A lot of work
A guy who I really liked on Minnesota was defenseman Mike Reilly (number 5)
Holy cow, can that kid skate!
IMO, he was the best skater on the ice. And I liked him a lot the other night too.
Cbus drafted him in the 4th round a couple years ago
If Ehrhoff does want out...
If ship him and a 2nd (not ours) to Cbus for Reilly & their 1st
Or something like that
I really like that kid
He's gonna be a very good offensive defenseman - jdfitz77
I always liked Skjei but the rangers would want the world for him .. Reilly would be a nice pick up |

He'd trade it for a UFA to be!
Hahaha
Jk, Isles fans
Even if NYI did win it,
I think they take Ekblad
Actually, I think any of the top5 teams would take Ekblad
So I'm not too worried - jdfitz77
Isles wold take Bennett!!!
They need offence in the next few years.
Got lots of defence coming up. |

Nolan named the following players that are locks for the future: Myers, Ennis, Hodgson, Girgensons, Foligno. - sippyd
Thats murrays decision. Theyll all be here to start the season next year, but I wont be surprised if girgensons is the only one here in 3 years. Murray is acquiring players like foligno left and right, he hasnt done much to lock up a power forward role on the 3rd line, and the idea of marcus foligno vs what he actually brings will be looked at. As for the other 3, we'll see what happens. |

Tim Murray will be a busy man in the off-season. He’s willing to play Let’s Make a Deal just about anybody.
The Buffalo Sabres’ GM has hung the ‘For Sale’ sign outside the club’s office and he’s willing to move just about anybody as the off-season officially gets underway Monday for non-playoff teams.
Sources say Murray has been shopping RW Chris Stewart, D Christian Erhoff, C Luke Adam and RW Drew Stafford.
It doesn’t stop there, either. The Sabres will also listen to see what they can get for LW Marcus Foligno, LW Johan Larsson and D Chad Ruhwedel.
The last three are young players that are still considered prospects so it’s a little surprising Murray would be willing to move any of those guys given the club’s current state and direction.
“He’s just open for business,” said a league executive about Murray before the weekend. “He hasn’t drafted any of these current guys.”
Murray was amongst the NHL’s busiest GMs at the deadline by dealing goalie Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott. The Sabres aren’t done by any stretch and are moving into the next rebuild phase. |

Ya, he looked good too
Reilly's skating is off the charts IMO
Good passer, nice heavy point shot
Needs some development in his own end, but that's perfect for our needs. He could be a guy who spends a few years in Rochester rounding out his game, but is good enough to be decent when called up to cover for injuries.

Not surprised by this
Murray wants to make this HIS team
That's why I think it's crazy to argue who's actually better between Reinhart & Bennett...
I think the real question should be,
Who does Murray think FITS better into the "team" he's building

I found it interesting to see Johan Larsson and Chad Ruhwedel mentioned just because they are prospects but like you said Murray wants to build his team and nobody was drafted or signed by him.

Absolutely. Before they hired him, I thought the gm job for the sabres was a dream job. Good young defensive prospects- built for todays nhl, tons of high picks including a few first rounders, a billionaire owner, and a ton of cap space when the time is right. Only makes sense that they brought in a guy who was gonna use it the way he thinks it should be used. |

It doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't like those guys, he just might not see them fitting into a particular role
For example...
Assuming we draft Reinhart/Bennett this year, and McDavid/Eichel next year...
Who's our 3rd center?
Hodgson, Ennis, Girgensons, Grigorenko, Larsson, Compher?
Which of them FITS into a role on the wing?
And which need to be moved for a player who can fit the particular role he has in mind?
There's gonna be a lot of fine tuning by Murray over the next couple years
I wouldn't be surprised to see more trades like the McNabb for Fasching deal |

Yep
And I've heard him repeatedly say he's willing to make mistakes when going for the players he wants
He knows not everyone is gonna work out
But he's not afraid to go for it
That's a good thing
Can't hit a home run if u don't swing
Many ppl have criticized Darcy for that over the years
I don't think that'll be an issue with Murray
Lets just hope he doesn't have too many misses

Yes. Yes. Yes. The only thing that surprises me is the timing. If we wanna be odds on favorites for mcdavid/eichel, dont change a thing. There will be plenty of time to bring in your type of players next year.

It should be fun. Looking back to 2007 (the modern era based on how the game is played) cup winners have had stud centers and norris caliber defensemen. Murray has the d in the pipe, should be able to snag two very good centers in the next 2 drafts, and has indicated that he wants bigger athletes all over the roster. It sounds like he is perfectly on track, I just dont want to screw up next years draft by moving guys out too soon.

Don't assume that he's gonna bring in guys like Bobby Ryan
The one guy he did target to bring in at this past deadline was Fasching, who is still a couple years away from being a Sabre
Seems to me, he'd be more likely to target younger players
He's mentioned repeatedly that he'd trade picks for players who are further along in their development...
Which makes me think he doesn't want a LONG rebuild
But
I also haven't heard him say he wants to go after guys like Brown or Kesler either...
Which makes me think he's not looking for a QUICK fix either
I wouldn't worry about next year
We'll be drafting in the top3 almost for sure
And I think we could be bad for another year after that
Then I expect some steady improvement

I think in order to ensure the sabres continue to bomb next season, we should bring in hard partier, Ryan "Mr. Snowman" 'Malone. Throw the C on the grizzled vet's chest and watch him party away the year. Many a young girl will be violated in Chippewa bar bathrooms,.. classic Paul Gaustad/Derek Roy style....imagine a top line of Malone, Leino, and John Scott logging 19+ minutes a night... We will have the worst record safely in possession for Connor McDavid. The sabres need to spend money to hit the cap floor. The millions they invest in Malone will undoubtedly end up on the streets, therefore keeping many buffalo police officers employed. Malone is not only good for the sabres draft, he is also good for the local economy. |

Really?
We definitely disagree. I think he needs A LOT of work on his skating.
I have only seen two games though, small sample size.
He's good on the boards, and always around the net though. It'll be tougher for him to maintain this as he plays against bigger & tougher competition, but he seems to have the nose for it, so that's good.
He's got plenty of time to work on his skating too, so I'm not all that worried, but he does have a ways to go IMO if he wants to make the NHL one day. |

I was not impressed with larsson or ruhwedel. I can't think of a single shift they had all season long that made me think they belonged in the nhl. I think it's less about the fact of who drafted who an more about getting rid if dead weight. Mcnabb had no future in buffalo. Guy had mancari written all over him. Big, hard shot, moments of great play but he couldn't think the game through to make the jump. |

Im good with that. All three of those guys would require a ton going back the other way. Theres no point. Maybe if they were younger. Maybe kick the tires on one of floridas young centers. They will cost, but the timeline fits better.
