[quote=joshs]I was not impressed with larsson or ruhwedel. I can't think of a single shift they had all season long that made me think they belonged in the nhl. I think it's less about the fact of who drafted who an more about getting rid if dead weight. Mcnabb had no future in buffalo. Guy had mancari written all over him. Larsson is a surprise. Thought that he might be the obvious choice for checking line center. Maybe they just dont think he will bring any offense at the nhl level. Ruwhedel looks like maybe a 6-7 depth guy. My guess is that both players have good and bad traits, and murray would be willing to dispassionately move them to bring in his own type of players.

These are players who could be the "throw in" type in a deal to get it done...so giving them a peek at times next year would be good IMO.
I do think this draft will speak volumes as to the type of team TM plans to build. At the end of the season last year Pegulla went on record to say the Sabres need to be bigger and tougher to play against, the latter related to the mental toughness and high compete level. In that regard, I could see the Sabres drafting Bennett first...a sort of Bobby Clarke type who will win at any cost and agitate along the way to get the oPposition of their game. I'M NOT SAYING BENNETT IS BETTER THAN REINHART, but am trying to connect the dots. They clearly displayed that desire in last years draft with the likes of Risto, Big Zadorov and Comphere.

Hey Gerbe's ... Give me your honest opinion on Reinhart's play in the playoffs since I haven't seen him play. Is he proving to be clutch? Is he dominating play. I would like to know how he appears in your eyes under high pressure situations in the playoffs?

Atleast they seem to have a plan on what type of team they want to build. Going back over the last 10 years it was a modge podge of players thrown together.

They looked for value and wound up with anonymous henchmen that would be brushed aside by better, tougher players. Its just too bad that there was so little in place that it required a total rebuild. Theres something disheartening about hoping your favorite teams lose for several years in the hopes of finding the right players. But thats where we are and at least they are trying to end the cycle of mediocrity.

Spot on...it is tough going through it but fun to watch the team develop. And cheers to Nolan for canning his entire staff...especially the conditioning coach....way too many injuries to be coincidence. Wonder what will become of Cunneyworth...he was to be the briDge between Bflo and Roch. Wonder if he joins Nolan's staff?

Ever? of any team?

I sincerely doubt that. There have been some very bad teams playing since the lockout and before. This buffalo team is certainly in the mix, but to say they are without question the worth team is pushing it, especially when i doubt you watch any team like you watch the sabres.

You could make a pretty passionate argument for the sabres being that team, and i wouldn't necessarily disagree with you (hey, i've watched every game this season too) but i dunno. worst team ever? i'd have a hard time comfortably saying that.

meh. okay.

my choice? 1999-2000 atlanta thrashers.

39 total points. less than 20 wins. almost 60 losses. the comparison isn't even close.

1998-1999 lightning were garbage too. 47 points.

1997-1998 lightning 44 points.

i could go on but i think everyone gets the point

I'll disagree on Larsson. On his a last callup I thought he was running his line well from a center position, getting under the skin of opponents and making smart defensive plays. He certainly wasn't imposing his will on teams, but to me I was seeing enough to make me envision him locking down our 3rd line C position.

Contemplating taking my bike to the arena today, what with it being so epically awesome outside. Trying to remember if there was secure bike parking down there...

Oodles of potential there. Might not find his stride for a couple more years.

Right now the roster would have a close game with the 1974-75 expansion Washington Captitals whom the Sabres beat 14-2 that year and they won 8 games all year.

If not lock it to a light pole close to the arena or there has to be bike parking on the Harbor/Water Front. A short walk to the arena

I see larsson as a good 4th liner reminds me of paille. I can also see a lot of hect in the way he plays, that he has no hands and is a straight foward hockey player.

Yeah, I was thinking the harbor would be my best bet, especially if it's got people in it. I have a bike that tends to get noticed, so I get pretty uptight about locking it... But it's too nice out (and will suck next week) to pass up!

Paille would be more than a 4th liner on most teams. I think Larsson will be more than that

Boy I hope they can do better than Larsson as the 3rd line C in this rebuild.
While he has seemed more comfortable in his last call up...he is stout on his skates for his size but I see zero in the offensive zone...is he an nhler?...still too early to tell.
