There's probably a double standard, but I feel like that would be a very viable option if Malone wasn't slated for a buyout anyways. - Michael_Stuart
If they buy him out then I hope he is able to find either employment as a player or in some other form in the hockey world |

Wow, you have no idea obviously of what the habits are of pro athletes. If you want to get back to a original six team NHL, overnight, listen to this doofus'article. If you want a one team NHL throw out all the alcoholics and drug recreationalists. All in my opinion of course. I mean heck, all I did was play pro sports. What do I know? As opposed to Joe Fan here.

I think in order to ensure the sabres continue to bomb next season, Buffalo should bring in hard partier, Ryan "Mr. Snowman" 'Malone. Throw the C on the grizzled vet's chest and watch him party away the year. Many a young girl will be violated in Chippewa bar bathrooms,.. classic Paul Gaustad/Derek Roy style....imagine a top line of Malone, Leino, and John Scott logging 19+ minutes a night... We will have the worst record safely in possession for Connor McDavid. The sabres need to spend money to hit the cap floor. The millions they invest in Malone will undoubtedly end up on the streets, therefore keeping many buffalo police officers employed. Malone is not only good for the sabres draft, he is also good for the western New York economy. |

OH STFU. youre such a (frank)ing clown. "all i did was play pro sports" hahaha OK BUDDY . what the (frank) are you doing commenting on an amateur blog site then?holy (frank). What a joke..
You're calling Michael a doofus? Come off it. Go F yourself, you (frank)ing dummy.
If you're a "pro" athlete, you work hard, dedicate yourself, make sacrifices (which may include missing a party to workout) and have a full commitment to the sport. You were obviously just a piece of poop athlete, (frank) you...get your (frank)ing head out of your ass
a "pro" athlete has more pride in himself, his dedication, professionalism, and hard work, than to take a bunch of (frank)ing cocaine. If you were a pro athelete, you were just another one of those pieces of poop drug abusers that you're defending. You dont know (frank) all about pro sports, or what it takes
LEts get another thing straight here. A pro athelete doesnt go around online claiming to be or bragging about being a pro athlete. Youre a (frank)ing scrub - RileyB77
Way to go Riley
But the reality is quite alot party and of course alcohol and pills are usually number one but they do use and more than you think. Are they cleaning it up yes because the leagues are demanding it but you don't have a substance abuse and behavioral health department or have these part of the CBA because it doesn't exist. It does so time to get off the high horse ,these guys are still human and booze, pills and to a lesser extent coke are prevelant in all sports and walk of lives. I'd say pain medication is probably number one with all the injuries but booze is right there.
Good luck Ryan hope you get the help you need and sort out your life- everyone is entitled to a second chance if they clean up their act, whether or not it's here or somewhere else. |

And this would be the last time I read anything by Stuart.
What a load of crap some writers, no thats too complimentary, bloggers will throw out on this site. Stuart just dragged this guys entire career through the mud for clicks, without knowing what actually happened. Typical sofa "journalism"....read someone else's report, rewrite and turn it edgy for clicks.
Hyper-opinionated individuals like Stuart shouldn't be allowed access to the internet!

Some of you guys need to relax! It's his opinion, no need to come here arguing with him and being nasty. Some of you guys have to learn to be respectful. I might not completely agree but no opinion is "right." |

Look at it this way. If you work in a professional office environment and get arrested and charged with cocaine possession, you're probably not going to be welcome around the office moving forward. - Michael_Stuart

The cocaine to me is a separate issue here, since we have no idea of the circumstances around him having it on his person, until we do no judgements should be made. The DUI on the other hand is the problem, and should be the reason Malone gets his walking papers. Do we want another Dany Heatley incident? For those saying that being kept from the locker room is too harsh, maybe it's time that the NHL emulates the NFL in that any player arrested and charged gets investigated by the league and sanctioned with a considerable suspension depending on the severity of the incident. |

.116 is like 3 beers or at a game two jumbos. O whose kidding who here you never had two large beers at a game and drove home and I've hit that same curb off Platt Street more than once and not had a drink, it's confusing as hell there. |

He is only human, yes a pro athlete but a human first. He is part of a strong league, strong employer, strong union, and has money in the bank. He has way more than the average man to get help in this situation, eventually it will be his decision. Not the first nor the last of his kind. The best news in this situation is that nobody was injured while he was DUI.
I wish him well, |

The bad news I don't think you can waive or buyout someone while in the Treatment program especially if it's for 6 months. |
