It does seem unlikely the Sabres will pick 1st. Either way, they should be fine. Not like it is McDavid.

It seems odd to me McDavid err McDaniel would just show up at a Sabres/Isles game.

Yeah the isles are in a world of trouble. Their window of just squeaking in the playoffs keep getting shorter and shorter. Can't believe their are still professional sports teams that operate like this.

Tavares and Okposo both had over 20 points more than your highest scoring player, this despite both finishing the season injured and JT only playing 59 games. Now your GM is trying to shop every reasonable NHL player you have left on the roster and you, in particular, seem to think we have it worse?

I hate taking shots at a team that's been gutted and starting a full rebuild because it's a miserable way to spend the next half decade watching hockey, you'll see.

Im not here to take shots at anyone team, but to me next season all rides on 2 things.

The young prospects making a leap to the NHL. The young players will have growing pains. Can the 2nd year playes avoid sophmore slumps. Can the Isles overcome them?

I watched it a few times. It looks IMO a lot worse with the result. It's a hit that happens a lot in games. Still a bad hit but the result makes it look even worse.

I was watching the game to see if the Flames were going to lose so the Isles pick was 5.

Honestly it wasn't a terrible hit. Not much force, I think the game misconduct and maybe a $5,000-10,000 fine will be enough.

Those are the tricky ones. When a hit is already questionable and the result is a guy on a stretcher, it probably wasn't a hit you should make.

Now, the McCabe hit, was completely clean yet he got a 5 minute major and a 10 minute misconduct. I still have no idea why.

I am still very puzzled with that call. I think the fact that there was no mention of any sort of supplemental discipline was an acknowledgment that the call was wrong

I go back and forth on this.

True but would you want to wait a year to make that pick when you are on thin ice and then have to sell to your fan base that you are basically admitting you are going to be bad again?

What happens if as some Islanders posters seem to think they could make the playoffs next year. What if they don't pick this year and end up catching lightning in a bottle next year and make the playoffs? So you give up a top 5 pick and end up drafting 20th?

My guess would be, and you might be able to provide some more insight being that you do ref for college games, that they were trying to prevent things from escalating. They figured that getting McCabe out of the game was the best way to diffuse the situation. That's really the only reason I can see for why they did that.
