Unless Reinhart is the second coming of Gretzky, that's likely where we're headed next year.

Bennett is better.
None of the guys in this draft will make an impact next year.

Go look at the Hawks and pens and then tell me it won't take 5 more years. Seriously, go look at how long both teams missed the playoffs and keep in mind crosby and malkin, Toews and Kane. You really think it's going to take less than 5 years? Do you already have one of those type of franchise players? You have some good prospects, but there is no one on the Sabresof that caliber yet.
You can make fun of our owner for sure we hate him and our coaches and GM. The good news for us is that Wang wants out. Your owner has already tried throwing money at it and it didn't work, it's a long painful road. Good luck, but you're wrong. - Isles_since_6
Those teams missed on a fair bit of 1st round picks which didn't help them. For example so far it looks like Ristolainen will be much more successful than Jack Skille who the Hawks picked 7th overall.
As long as we don't do something stupid like drafting Dipietro 1st overall and Raffi Torres 5th overall, we should be fine |

Completely irrelevant to the point i was trying to make. Bennett/Reinhart/Ekblad whoever, we'll still be near the bottom.

It takes time to grow a team through the draft.
We have lots of young guys ready to go. Kids are only 18 yrs old when drafted.
The Isles problem is they have not added quality veterans to help the young guys.
Wang will not spend money either.
You guys have to be patient for at least the next 2 years... you have an owner that will throw the money out there when the time comes.
You need to draft either 1st or 2nd overall next year!!! - jimmc7722
I know u think ur a defender and a coach away from returning to the playoffs but I don't see boston missing any time soon, philly, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Montreal and the rangers missing next season. Now u have to ask yourself will the devils find a way like they always do or Washington return to play as they should. Also can't rule out Detroit. U guys made the playoffs in a shorten season just like the leafs. Glad u guys did, rooted for u but it's weird to be called a troll bcz I see ur team differently than a homer does. The west is much better than the east so in all likelyhood u guys could finish as a bottom 7 team. |

That was Milbury...
But I'm sure you knew that.
And yes Murray will make mistakes.
Maybe not as bad as Regier... or maybe he will be worst???
I guess we will see in the next couple years.

Exactly. Part of the Hawks and Pens issues before was the ownership of the team as well. Wirtz was set in his ways about things and after he passed and his son took over, a lot of things changed. The whole culture there changed.
Pittsburgh was on uneven footing for quite some time as well. Things like that hold teams back. When you can't compete with the other markets to keep your own guys, it's a problem. |

No doubt, but I'm not sure they'll be on Milbury level. Murray's strength is at the draft so I'm not worried about that, more concerned about what he does at Free agency when the time comes to make a big splash. |

Will the owner open up the wallet to the FA's this year?

God I hope not
All seriousness though, I think Murray will want another solid drafting in 2015 before he makes a move. |

He's gonna have to, to reach cap floor but I would prefer they give out bridge contracts. I want to have a dominant team not a team that gets knocked out in the 1st round of the playoffs. Only way to do that is to have a lot of good assets and a few high caliber draft picks. |

Why are you continuing to bring up Milbury? He was the reason we had to rebuild, he didn't take us through one. |

Because the example I made was one from Milbury's time. Just saying that while expect Murray to make mistakes here and there, I don't think they'll be on that level. Wasn't a slight against the islanders current team, just making a point. |

Milbury ranks as one of the worst gms in NHL history, no one suggested Murray was going to go mental. |

Good reply , Somehow you think you have a superior franchise ? Got news for you , both our teams are golfing next week , Our rebuild is well on it's way we already have been rated as having the second best prospect pool . Plus we have a ton of picks in the next two drafts being run by a GM that has helped build other Stanley cup winners.. Then an owner that will open the check book to sign whoever our GM says we need to finish the job.
How long till JT wants out of that hot mess ?

No but I was saying that in response to why it took Chicago and Pittsburgh so long. They were going through a time of instability at the top and they made some really, really bad picks in the 1st round (Barker 3rd overall ). |

Personally, I don't mind if it takes 5 years to get to the ultimate prize. I want to get to know the main components of the team, I want to feel a connection to the guys who raise the cup for Buffalo. I think that's what hurt the most about losing Miller and the guys, the fact that I wanted to celebrate their success.
I mean, I know a lot of people here would just as soon take this upcoming cup winner for this season and just slap Sabres jersey's on them and call it a day, and hell, that might be alright, but, I just want to enjoy the win fully when it happens.
5 years... hell... I'm game. Just make sure it happens. |
