Not sure if you caught my post on the last thread 'Bows, but Hawks were 3-1 with the big pylon in the lineup vs Van in '11 playoffs.

They lost the first 3 games (Scott dressed in G3), then won 3 straight with 32 dressed. Q sat him in G7 and we lost.

I'll lay the credit for games 4,5, and 6 on Bolland's return, and game 7 on Bickell's loss. Fluffy had very little to do with it, imo. As a reference, Hawks were 3-0 this year with Rundblad in the line-up, and I think we all agree he shouldn't be in the line-up.

Good points all around about working with limitations for both guys, but I'm with Rain man on this one.

I will say this with surety...

If Trotz was coaching a team up North and lost that game the same way and the series as a result, he would have been very lucky to survive that summer.

It's all the coaches fault because he determines who is on the ice and the last person that should have been was Erat and there never should have been 2 forwards behind the net.

A timeout should have been called, instead of trying to score a power play goal when up by 1 in that situation..BTW that would have been their 1st PP goal all series.

Instead of knowing how to win they found a way to lose as they got scored on shorthanded while Kane stood near the blueline.

That's all on coaching as the club never took the next step.

The point is Trotz was limited in some ways but he had enough talent to win in the playoffs at least get past the 1st round and that didn't happen. Carolina is a small market team and they won a Cup.

I will stand by my comment...Since 2010 overrated as a head coach and if the rest of the NHL community agrees with you Trotz will be hired very soon...
I don't think so...

Poile was hamstrung by ownership issues but he could follow Trotz soon.

I wrote it and people I heard from said Suter/Parise were going to the Wild..

He didn't sign Suter ahead of his last year...Onwership issues had something to do with that but losing him for nothing was costly.

That meant he had a gun to his head to sign Weber and paid a good sum to do that...End result is they paid 2 players about $15 mill long term and then go out and sign a Stalberg to be what he never was....So I don't disagree on Poile but ownership there was an issue.

I call Barry Trotz an 'entry level' coach. Hire him to coach a very bad team and he will install a defensive structure that keeps the goals down and allows that team to be competitive on quite a few nights. He would be good for awhile in Edmonton, Florida, NYI, maybe Toronto.

But the results indicate he can't take a team much beyond getting into the playoffs. Just having Weber, Rinne, and Suter previously and some decent forwards and not being able to win tells it all. And Poile took trade deadline shots with Peter Forsberg, Radulov, Mike Fisher, Gaustad, the Kostitsyns and still nothing past Round 1. Time to go, 15 years more than enough time.

Wonder if Stalberg went to see Poile after the season and told him he could score 50 goals if given a chance and that it was either him or Trotz, one of them had to go.

Bolland's return obviously was key, but i think the lads played bigger and bolder with Scott in the lineup.

One of the best quotes from that series was when Kesler was asked about the Hawks putting Scott on the power play. "If they want to play 4 on 4, that's up to them."

Agree...One other reason I don't think he will get hired is because there aren't many Big Lou's out there..."Trap" hockey doesn't sell tickets.

Not in the US. Take a strong hockey market like Calgary, though, and he could probably get them respectable pretty quick.

I did Phil. I gave up. There is no way that big idiot had any effect on any game he played. It was purely coincidence.
