They do 'Bows, but not the same if it isn't THEIR TEAM. Leaf fans in general don't give a phuck that Toews, Keith, Seabs, Crow and Sharp are Canadian. Same applies to most teams i'd say.
Every city, Canadian or American, is much more invested, when it's THEIR TEAM.
Simple as that. - philco28
I get that Phil. I was referring to something more along the lines of this.
Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver fans cheering for the Habs in the playoff because they are based in a Canadian city. |

My Canadian buddy, a Leafs fan , is obsessed with bringing the Cup back to any Canadian team. Cheers balls to the wall like I do for the Hawks but for every Canadian team in the playoffs.... Crazy !
I get the concept of bringing the Cup "home" but a Leafs fan cheering for the Habs or Canucks ? That's bonkers to me. - mrpaulish
That is exactly what I was talking about. I find it baffling. |

Finish them. The Blues are reeling. It would be disaster to give them any confidence. - mrpaulish
Exactly. There's a school of thought that says the home ice team has more pressure, because a split is a victory for the road team. Kick them when they're down! Winning the first two in STL would pretty much bury them. |

To me, where the team is from is no different than where the players are from. The core of most teams consists of at least a few Canadians. So when Hawks win and guys like Toews, Fraser, Ladd, Keith and Seabrook bring the cup "home". I don't care so much who wins as long as it isn't Boston |

I'm assuming you're a Canucks fan? Well the thing is, there's this thing going on called the playoffs, and sometimes a team without finger biters and hair pullers wins this big silver thing and parties, without destroying a beautiful city. And sometimes, a team with a goalie who lunges ends up celebrating on another team's ice with the Conn Smythe in one hand the Cup (that's the silver thing) in another. Stick to lurking my friend. |

After the a Hawks won in 2010 I was really concerned with who they handed the Cup off to , I didn't want it to be the Canucks , thank God that didn't happen.....
Looking at this years tournament field , the team I hate the most is Saint Louis. After that I don't have a whole lo of hate for any other team except Montreal , but I don't have any fear that the Habs will win the Cup..... |

Oh...simple answer is jingoism. A Canadian-based team hasn't won the Cup since the Habs in '93. Cdn fans are starving for that to happen again.

Not the same if individuals, playing on American teams, win. Sure, when the Cup comes to the Canadian towns...the people are pleased as phuck and show up in huge numbers to support the home town kids done well. But many Canadians want a Canadian-based team to win the Cup. I could really care less since you know where loyalties are. |

Is that according to the wisdom of prock? - EKolb13
I doubt Yzerman would stay as GM if ownership forces his hand on how he builds. I doubt he would trade the only marketable name on the team. Someone is trying to create a story. The Toronto media is hungry for any news like the people in England are all excited about the Queen of England. What a bunch of b**llsh*t.
As I pointed out in a thread late in JJ's last column, Tampa has all kinds of young players and more on the way. They can afford Stamkos even if attendance is poor. Trading Stamkos means they should just move the franchise and get a new owner. |

Even more maddening to them must be the fact that franchises like Carolina, Dallas, Tampa, Anaheim, and L.A. have won since then. |

It is the fans. No one with half a brain think Stamkos is going anywhere. At least for the foreseeable future. |

Well that one I agree with. Maybe no LA so much cause they have been in the league for awhile. The others frosted my ass winning before I saw the Hawks win. |

That's what I was thinking. Can't say for myself since I'm not Canadian, but if I were I think it would chap my ass that all of those warm-weather, non-traditional hockey markets have hoisted the cup in the last decade and a half or so.

Hawks recalled Mashintor for Thursday........for a shot across the bow! - UnnamedSource
If he played I would hope he goes drop Jackman or Backes or a skill guy like Steen. Let the Blues see they are going to get it just as much as they dish it out. A taste of your own medicine, eh. We can get down to the business of playing hockey once everyone understands how it is going to be. In 2010 we had a Burrish, Bourque, Big Buff, Ladd who were willing to do what it takes. Is Mashintor part of a similar formula?
Maybe. Wait and see is all we can do. I know that is not how everyone on the board would handle things. But that is why each of the players on a team will have a different style and different reaction. You need a balance and Mashintor could help even the scale on what we are lacking.
If they go after Toews' arm and or shoulder, have a couple guys go after Steen. Bring on the old time hockey. You would have to knock me unconscious before I cannot pull any dirty trick or big check on the meanest, biggest Blues player. You need at least a couple of your own players willing to play that way. When the going gets tough, you cannot just say we will make them pay on the powerplay. If you are too weak then go play recreation ladies hockey. Be a man or get lost |
