Zhamnov? What a bum that guy was. He showed up for about 30 games a year. - Elbows15
I was glad Zhamnov was in CHI and thought that he could play like in WPG. Unfortunately it wasn't the case. JR was much better type of player for that team. |

Oh...simple answer is jingoism. A Canadian-based team hasn't won the Cup since the Habs in '93. Cdn fans are starving for that to happen again. - philco28
Phil, the organization that's really hurting this playoff year is the CBC. They're the ones who want to see as many Canadian teams in the post season as possible, and they've got only one and that may not last long.
A mature, knowledgeable hockey fan like yourself living in Canada doesn't give a f$ck about Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edomonton, Calgary or even Vancouver. It's either the Leafs or the Habs amongst Canadian teams, the rest don't matter unless you live in those cities.
After those 2 Canadian teams. I'd venture to say that most of the rest of fans in Canada want to see the Hawks, Bruins, Flyers, or Red Wings win it all.

Ricardo, excellent points all around. If Toronto had got by L.A. in the '93 WCF, that '93 final with Montreal would have been EPIC.

If he played I would hope he goes drop Jackman or Backes or a skill guy like Steen. Let the Blues see they are going to get it just as much as they dish it out. A taste of your own medicine, eh. We can get down to the business of playing hockey once everyone understands how it is going to be. In 2010 we had a Burrish, Bourque, Big Buff, Ladd who were willing to do what it takes. Is Mashintor part of a similar formula?
Maybe. Wait and see is all we can do. I know that is not how everyone on the board would handle things. But that is why each of the players on a team will have a different style and different reaction. You need a balance and Mashintor could help even the scale on what we are lacking.
If they go after Toews' arm and or shoulder, have a couple guys go after Steen. Bring on the old time hockey. You would have to knock me unconscious before I cannot pull any dirty trick or big check on the meanest, biggest Blues player. You need at least a couple of your own players willing to play that way. When the going gets tough, you cannot just say we will make them pay on the powerplay. If you are too weak then go play recreation ladies hockey. Be a man or get lost - jhawk59
It's pretty obvious that UnnamedSource was using Mashinter to poke a little fun at some of the folks around here that love "red ass" hockey.
Beyond that, let's be serious here - Mashinter is of no help to the Hawks and probably never will be. He's a bit on the slow side, which means he really can't help this team on the ice. He takes bad penalties, which is something that would drive Q up a wall. About all Mashsinter is could do for the Hawks on the ice is to play the role of a pugilist, and even then he'd be a bit shaky at that. He can throw a mean right, but he isn't overly skilled as a "prize-fighter."
How Mashinter helps the organization is in regards to playing enforcer at the AHL level to protect the Hawks investment in prospects. He skates and plays the role of a power forward just well enough to barely keep up with your Pirri's and Teravainen's of the world. He's essentially filling a role in Rockford that's been vacant since the graduation of Bollig to the NHL. Since Bollig had moved onto Chicago, that role has been filled by Wade Brookbank's tired ass, and as much as I like the guy, he should have hung up his skates a couple of seasons ago.
That's why Mashinter has a two way contract. It's a reward to him and he will make $100,000 per season with Rockford for the next two seasons, and the organization has someone competent enough to protect the kids on the ice in Rockford. He'll probably get to ride with the big club as a Black Ace during the playoffs, but that is something of a gesture of good will, or an extra bonus for Mashinter.
If we do see Mashinter dress for a game in the playoffs, then this team has been decimated by injury and the Hawks chances of winning are beyond (frank)ed. |

I doubt Yzerman would stay as GM if ownership forces his hand on how he builds. I doubt he would trade the only marketable name on the team. Someone is trying to create a story. The Toronto media is hungry for any news like the people in England are all excited about the Queen of England. What a bunch of b**llsh*t.
As I pointed out in a thread late in JJ's last column, Tampa has all kinds of young players and more on the way. They can afford Stamkos even if attendance is poor. Trading Stamkos means they should just move the franchise and get a new owner. - jhawk59
Two things...
1. Some of us were playing "who's your dream #2C for the Hawks" just to pass time. Good Christ, we got to have something to do until Thursday.
2. Stamkos goes UFA a couple of seasons from now. If he decides to bolt, there isn't much Yzerman can do about that. Tampa has all kinds of young players? Okay, good for them. However, you have to take into consideration that Tampa isn't exactly the center of the Hockey universe, and youth doesn't exactly guarantee a trip to the playoffs or getting past the first round every season. That could factor into where Stamkos signs his next contract. |

Zetterberg will be with the team for practice today, although he's ruled out for the first two games. Sounds like he's getting close. |

If that's the case, that could be the factor that could put the Wings over the top on Boston in the first round.
That Boston/Detroit series is going to be a fun one to watch. |

Or could be over real quick.
That said, I think the Wings are probably the only team that can trip up the Brutes in the East. They always give them trouble. |

That's huge. I feel like if anyone could upset the B's in round one it will be Detroit but that's a tall task even with Zetterberg in the lineup. Hoping they make it interesting. |

That should be very good, imo. I saw that news on PHT. I guess the Wangs could be messing with the Bruins, but it seemed legit to me. |

I'm with Elbows on how ridiculuos it is when fans of a Canadian team jump on the band wagon of a still remaining Canadian team in the playoffs after their team has been eliminated or didn't make the playoffs to begin with.
I can remember die-hard Canuck fans becoming Flames and then Oilers fans when each of them made their most recent runs to the finals.
Sadly, for the Canucks and their fans, I don't thinks it was reciprocal in 2011 |

I missed it over the weekend and just read it now
Is Kevin Hayes really not going to sign with the Hawks as reported on twitter?
If so, he needs to stop being a female dog just because the hawks traded his brother to a team he could actually play on. This is professional sports |

That's what the reports say. The Hawks have until 8/15 to sign him, so he could change his mind until then. After that he's a UFA. So I guess we won't know for sure until mid-August, but it appears he'll sign elsewhere. Don't want a guy who would choose to go elsewhere, especially if the reasons stated are true. Guy thinks he's Eric Lindros.... |

In my opinion, he was going to be another Pirri experiment
He was either going to be top 6 or bust. And with Teravainen in front of him along with Hossa, Sharp, Toews, Kane, and Saad already up with the club, its doubtful Q would ever give him an extended look there and he sticks
I havent seen much of K.Hayes play, but other people that have that I've talked to said he is a big time floater and doesnt use his size at all. Which is what he dont need more of |

I don't have two accounts. When I talked about that, I said that IF I had another acct where my favorite team wasn't the Blues that people wouldn't be so nasty to me. I said it to prove a point, and many admitted they say stuff just because of my favorite team.
I am over it. I like to talk hockey. That won't happen regularly on the Blues blog on hockeybuzz. I have to branch out. I have learned to take the dumb comments, it comes with the territory of I want to be around here where there are some to talk hockey.
Oh, and I think Ogi has been set free. He is probably just enjoying all the support hashtags. |
