Where is Brandon Bochenski when you need him? - prd797
Maybe we can trade Versteeg back for him... |

It's great to be free again.
I'd just like to thank everyone for their support (except you Beav, not much love from you ) during this difficult time in my life. I'm especially grateful to those of you that took the time and effort to keep me company through PM's.
I maintain my innocence and refuse to admit any wrong doing. You have my word that I will not allow this blatant overreach of authority to in any way temper or censor my posting style, and I will continue to doggedly agitate the opposition at every opportunity.

Haven't you heard the news?
Brandon Mashinter is the chosen one who will lead the Black Hawk nation to the promised land. - Beaver-Warrior
Thanks for clearing that up. As usual, I was the last one to know. Hail the Mashinter era!
Wow, I just listened to Eklund's podcast, and the Sharks seem to be a popular choice to at least make the finals. I have LA knocking them out in the 1st... |

I have LA winning in 7 too. San Jose always has the tools to win but they don't. Niemi has been struggling lately and if he falters the who team will. |

Wouldn't be shocked in the least that in a few years that the Barker for Leddy trade will be considered a "push". |

WTF!?
I stumble back on here and the last two pages are all about Brandon Mashinter? Isn't he the slow-skating Rockford enforcer dude? What does this have to do with the playoffs?
And if anyone suggests that he's being activated by the Hawks to handle the Blues goons, I won't believe this for a second. I cant imagine the front office and Q deciding to do that. I just can't. - Tugboat

I think we still won the Leddy/Barker trade, but the margin of victory keeps shrinking. |

Sharp for Ellison. While Versteeg and Leddy have their great moments, the Sharp trade was a Madoff pyramid scheme in comparison to the other two versions of bank heists. |

If Leddy blows out his knee in the playoffs this year and retires, I think that trade is still in Stan's favor. Four years of serviceable D play for a player that's out of the league? |

I'm glad we got something usable from the Barker trade. What a waste of a #3 pick in that draft |

I'm not quite sure what you mean by serviceable. On the roster? Boris Mironov was serviceable. |

Got it, thanks:
Beyond that, let's be serious here - Mashinter is of no help to the Hawks and probably never will be. He's a bit on the slow side, which means he really can't help this team on the ice. He takes bad penalties, which is something that would drive Q up a wall. About all Mashsinter is could do for the Hawks on the ice is to play the role of a pugilist, and even then he'd be a bit shaky at that. He can throw a mean right, but he isn't overly skilled as a "prize-fighter."
How Mashinter helps the organization is in regards to playing enforcer at the AHL level to protect the Hawks investment in prospects. He skates and plays the role of a power forward just well enough to barely keep up with your Pirri's and Teravainen's of the world. He's essentially filling a role in Rockford that's been vacant since the graduation of Bollig to the NHL. Since Bollig had moved onto Chicago, that role has been filled by Wade Brookbank's tired ass, and as much as I like the guy, he should have hung up his skates a couple of seasons ago.
That's why Mashinter has a two way contract. It's a reward to him and he will make $100,000 per season with Rockford for the next two seasons, and the organization has someone competent enough to protect the kids on the ice in Rockford. He'll probably get to ride with the big club as a Black Ace during the playoffs, but that is something of a gesture of good will, or an extra bonus for Mashinter.
If we do see Mashinter dress for a game in the playoffs, then this team has been decimated by injury and the Hawks chances of winning are beyond (frank)ed. - EKolb13
Good post, and explains from a position of much more knowledge the exact sort of thing I would have assumed to be the case. Arguably, the traditional enforcer role is of more paramount importance in the lower leagues than in the NHL, where teams have investments in very young, often undersized promising future stars to protect.
A Black Ace role as a reward makes perfect sense...
