Mr hat is right that playing 1 game burned a year off his ELC. Pretty sure ghost is ineligible to play because his ELC doesnt start until next year and he only signed an AHL contract for the remainder of this season.

Guadreau burned a year off his ELC for playing that 1 game with the flames a few days ago.

the flames figured it was worth it to keep the fans from pelting their building w/ garments

Like I said, I could be wrong. Unless there are some special rules with this situation, in the CBA, playoff games and regular season games are the same.

There's really no restrictions on who can practice with the team. They can invite anyone to practice with the club and often bring in players to help with practice. (mostly goalies) The only reason he couldn't practice with the Flyers was if he was trying to maintain his NCAA status and that was blown this afternoon with the Phantoms ATO.
- mayorofangrytown

To my knowledge that is untrue. You can't just bring in any player to practice with the team at any time. Especially in the regular season. There's a reason why there is a playoff reserve list.

Its market value. Do I like that the market value for a defensemen of his caliber is that high? No, but it is a fair value and what he would receive (if not higher) from being a UFA.

I really hope somebody overpays for Niskanen. I like him as a player but would not pay 6 million plus. The fact that he has suddenly gotten this much better in a contract year always scares me a bit. He might be overachieving right now. Honestly a team that is starved for defense will sign him to 6 million plus. I hope he goes higher than 6 because it will make Holmgren look good haha.

Where do you think he ends up and for what price? Id say Avs for 6.5 Million for 6 years

- FrmRusiaWifGlov

Maybe Detroit. They could really use some defenseman.

I happen to like Niskanen and would definitely sign him for $6M (assuming the Flyers made room).

Totally agree with this point. The team was mocked for trading to get Streit.. A lot of Isles fans said they'd be better off without him.. Well for many reasons, including injuries, they didn't come close to making the dance.. and I thought streit was pretty darned good this year..

Then, we acquire AMac, and I listened to Isles fans say he was beyond brutal and I am thinking, wow, he must suck.. since coming over, he's been good IMO, and I don't think it's a bad deal he signed either.. Homer is slowly fixing the D.

Finally, people laugh and talk like the 30 million is my money.. The Flyers have deep pockets, so I for one am ok if we spend the money instead of saving it and spending year after year as a non playoff team.

- Hextall271

Paul McCann the NSH blogger made a remark about it and it got me thinking. Doesn't NSH have there own probelms to worry about like trying to pay Weber and get some offense to help. Everyone wants to rip Holmgren about deals. How about a deal he didnt make with Leino and let him walk. How has that been Buffalo.

I am not denying that what you say is true...
but every year at the start of the season they have a player who can play a number of games (8 I think?) and then go back to junior hockey and those 8 games do not burn off a year of their ELC.

I really don't understand why one game in the playoffs burn off a year.

Thats an agreement with the junior hockey league in canada, not the ncaa, and there is probably a deadline for the 9 game rule thats way back in the first half of the season.

I don't get it. Why would Calgary do that then for the last game of their season?

In reality, I believe its jealousy from small market teams. Teams like the Islanders and Preds could never afford to have a #4 defenseman making $5M. Flyers don't give a poop as long as they're under the cap.

Must be some different rules for college players then. Scott Laughton played 5 game for the Flyers in 12/13, and he didn't burn off a year of his ELC.

yeah for sure. i find it extremely hard to believe another team wouldnt have offered him at the very least an identical deal if the flyers hadnt. i know people always want some sort of discount, but it seldom happens. especially with guys who were just acquired as rentals. there really isnt any semblance of loyalty there.
- stayinthefnnet

I agree with that statement, but I dont think it applies to AMac. He really wasnt acquired as a rental. I believe the Flyers new well in advance before the deal that they were going to target him in the offseason and when the opportunity presented itself they jumped on it. If he was a rental I believe they would have waited until after the playoffs to possibly negotiate a contract.

This is all kind of nitpicking though

To entice him to sign. Gaudreau was thinking long and hard about staying for his senior year. He would then become a FA on August 15th 2015.

I definitely see it from the Isles fans. They seem to turn on their players when they realize that management wont pony up and pay them. It seems as though years of undergoing that has really made them spiteful. I dont actually know any Predator fans so I cant really comment on them

100% absolutely not. He was our best player at some points in those playoffs. Like legit. Kreider may regret it as it set expectations unreasonably high the next year.

The slide rule applies to him. There's no slide rule once a college player signs. You're having a bad day man.

I don't even remember why I was pissed at you (I'm thinking the throwing the end of the season thing). I just know that, for the most part, when I do talk to you, I usually get all pissed off and fly off the handle, and we're all worse for it in the end. So for the time being, I'm just staying away. Just seems like a better option. But I think that Schenn Bros is my new favorite kicking dog.

It worked out nicely because now hes gonna sign a 2M bridge contract as opposed to potentially breaking out next season which would've been the final year in his ELC.

that must be it

the 8 game "try out" is for junior league players and the ncaa guys have a different set of rules regarding their entry level contracts

Its fine.

The Flyers may have overpaid, but they now have some security heading into free agency. I don't love their defense heading into next year (assuming everything stays the same), but it isn't horrible.

- PhillySportsGuy

As I have it

Coburn
Amac
Striet
Schenn
Gus
Lauridsen

Are pretty much locks to be apart of the flyers some how next year.

Grossman (may be traded)
Timonen (75/25 towards retirement)
Morin (9 game tryout more then likely)
Alt (could replace Gus and be flyers experiment)
