Paul McCann the NSH blogger made a remark about it and it got me thinking. Doesn't NSH have there own probelms to worry about like trying to pay Weber and get some offense to help. Everyone wants to rip Holmgren about deals. How about a deal he didnt make with Leino and let him walk. How has that been Buffalo.

It's jealousy. Plain and simple.

To entice him to sign. Gaudreau was thinking long and hard about staying for his senior year. He would then become a FA on August 15th 2015.
- PhillySportsGuy

He played in the USHL so that also counted as one of the four years. He could have been a free agent this summer I believe so yeah. They burnt a year to get him to sign. No one else could offer that.

Makes sense. That sucks for Calgary.
- Just5

It sucks a little bit, but its not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Not getting him signed would have been a big deal though.

Yeah I feel like Calgary has to push a little harder to get players to sign, unless of course the player loves cowboys, cattle, pickup trucks, rodeos, long cold winters and country music.

So I was off by a little, but the premise of why he played 1 game was the same.

As I have it

Coburn
Amac
Striet
Schenn
Gus
Lauridsen

Are pretty much locks to be apart of the flyers some how next year.

Grossman (may be traded)
Timonen (75/25 towards retirement)
Morin (9 game tryout more then likely)
Alt (could replace Gus and be flyers experiment)

- AGL_91

I would say Coburn, Streit, Amac are locks for sure.

Gus will get a qualifying offer certainly but he may go play in Europe for more playing time and money.

One of Grossmann/LSchenn may be traded, our blogger thinks it may be L Schenn as he has more trading value.

All the AHL players are still question marks to me.

Its market value. Do I like that the market value for a defensemen of his caliber is that high? No, but it is a fair value and what he would receive (if not higher) from being a UFA.

I really hope somebody overpays for Niskanen. I like him as a player but would not pay 6 million plus. The fact that he has suddenly gotten this much better in a contract year always scares me a bit. He might be overachieving right now. Honestly a team that is starved for defense will sign him to 6 million plus. I hope he goes higher than 6 because it will make Holmgren look good haha.

Where do you think he ends up and for what price? Id say Avs for 6.5 Million for 6 years

- FrmRusiaWifGlov

colorado is a good choice. hes young enough to grow with their young core. detroit could use him as well. i still wouldnt rule the flyers out.

i dont think he is going to be a 60 point guy, but if whatever team uses him lets him be on the first powerplay unit, he can certainly handle it. decent distributing skills, nice shot. hes actually shown a bit of physicality this season as well, which was utterly lacking last year (especially in the playoffs). i think this postseason is going to be big for him, to get a proper gauge on his true value.

the money for him is going to be there regardless, but ill wait until i see how he does in this postseason to see if hes worth the brinks truck hes gonna get.

I would still love to move salary and make a play for Niskanen. I really think he's a good player. Right handed shot, two way player and just hitting his prime.

I know others aren't thrilled with the risk and bust potential.

You see my point.

I can't even handle the south, let alone an hour outside of either Philly or NYC.

I wouldn't say anyone on this team's defense is a "lock." If the right deal comes along, anyone of them could be traded.

In reality, I believe its jealousy from small market teams. Teams like the Islanders and Preds could never afford to have a #4 defenseman making $5M. Flyers don't give a poop as long as they're under the cap.
- PhillySportsGuy

i really dont view amac as simply a 4 guy though, if that makes sense. regardless of nomenclature, i just think hes going to have a much more integral role than your typical number 4 rank and file guys

The south really isn't bad. They are pretty friendly. Many of them can be condescending about your beliefs, but if you choose to ignore it, you can have a good time.

If you're in Texas and you tell them you're an atheist, they'll just say "Oh, well, nobody is perfect. Here, have some more food."

Maybe Detroit. They could really use some defenseman.

I happen to like Niskanen and would definitely sign him for $6M (assuming the Flyers made room).

- PhillySportsGuy

Huh. I forgot about their lack of defense. I dont think that Holland is going to pony up and do it though. I think they would go after a cheaper option. Probably Anton Stralman, and not just because he is swedish. God knows they are going to ditch Quincey

I would rather have Timmonen for another year at 6M then Niskanen for 6+ years at that price. If Timmonen does retire I would pursue Niskanen but I wouldnt get into any bidding wars, which would probably mean he wouldnt sign with us.

I think he's a 4, but with a lot of versatility. He can be used in any situation whereas Streit is a 4, but should be sheltered in certain situations.
