The south really isn't bad. They are pretty friendly. Many of them can be condescending about your beliefs, but if you choose to ignore it, you can have a good time.
If you're in Texas and you tell them you're an atheist, they'll just say "Oh, well, nobody is perfect. Here, have some more food." - PhillySportsGuy
I was in Nashville, and actually found everyone to be friendly (aside from a group of guys from NY I almost had to fight for wearing my Flyers' coat). |

Huh. I forgot about their lack of defense. I dont think that Holland is going to pony up and do it though. I think they would go after a cheaper option. Probably Anton Stralman, and not just because he is swedish. God knows they are going to ditch Quincey
I would rather have Timmonen for another year at 6M then Niskanen for 6+ years at that price. If Timmonen does retire I would pursue Niskanen but I wouldnt get into any bidding wars, which would probably mean he wouldnt sign with us. - FrmRusiaWifGlov
Yeah. I think Niskanen goes for more than $6M. The market is pretty empty at this point.
I liked Girardi the most and Niskanen the second most. After that, I went Markov, Boyle then MacDonald. |

I would still love to move salary and make a play for Niskanen. I really think he's a good player. Right handed shot, two way player and just hitting his prime.
I know others aren't thrilled with the risk and bust potential. - PhillySportsGuy
I'd be OK with that. They would have to trade Grossmann or LSchenn and maybe a forward to fit him into the salary cap. |

Southerners are very friendly. There are just small segments who are incredibly racist and ignorant who make the south look completely backwards. Most of those people are found in places you would never visit anyway. |

colorado is a good choice. hes young enough to grow with their young core. detroit could use him as well. i still wouldnt rule the flyers out.
i dont think he is going to be a 60 point guy, but if whatever team uses him lets him be on the first powerplay unit, he can certainly handle it. decent distributing skills, nice shot. hes actually shown a bit of physicality this season as well, which was utterly lacking last year (especially in the playoffs). i think this postseason is going to be big for him, to get a proper gauge on his true value.
the money for him is going to be there regardless, but ill wait until i see how he does in this postseason to see if hes worth the brinks truck hes gonna get. - stayinthefnnet
Im sure his skills would be helpful on the Flyers but not at that price. I just dont remember being all that impressed with him until this season. If I am going to sign him for that much and for that long I would like to see a little more sustained results. Id rather wait it out. He sure is going to get paid. If he has a bad playoffs he could lose a little bit of that money though. |

I don't understand this. I guess it's just dumb luck but I live in a Philly suburb and wear Rangers poop constantly and no one even says anything and I've seen the other way around too.
In fact after a playoff game verses the Caps a guy walked out in an Ovi jersey and people all around him were chanting at him and messing with him in a harmless way like jumping up and down near him when his glasses fell off. The crowd literally froze, one guy picked up his glasses handed to him and made sure he was ok an then began chanting again . Everything I've seen is always good natured.

I think he's a 4, but with a lot of versatility. He can be used in any situation whereas Streit is a 4, but should be sheltered in certain situations. - PhillySportsGuy
like i said, i guess im just picking at semantics saying a guy is a three and not a four, since its the same pairing and whatnot. still, amac strikes me as a guy with more value than those who typically would be thought of in that level. his versatility is definitely apparent. in his limited time, he has shown an ability to take the reins of his pairing and make his partner better. good special teamer as well. |

I think Streit/Amac would be a fine 2nd pair.
Coburn will still need someone to play with for first pair minutes.
Coburn/Grossmann or Coburn/Amac as the #1 pair doesn't make me too happy. |

i dont blame you for the apprehension. id have the same concerns. unfortunately, the market is going to provide guys like him insane amount of leverage. someone will gladly pony up to take the plunge. ive pretty much accepted the fact that he wont be on the pens next year. |

That can't be. Don't you know that every Philadelphia sports fan in a heartless bastard just waiting to start a fistfight with any fan of any other team?
But really, I've actually only had real problems at a game with other Flyers fans. I ended up putting one in a chokehold at the end of Game 6 in 2009 because he and some buddies jumped some Penguins fans, who were actually nice guys (they sat next to me and were low key).
The incident in Nashville was at a club. It was a little chilly, so I wore a coat. Some bumhole from NY came up to me and gave me some poop about it, and I basically just ignored him, I didn't feel like getting arrested on vacation. Then the same guy bumped into my wife pretty hard twice (I didn't notice the first time), and she turned around and said something about it, and he got all riled up. I told him in no uncertain terms I was more than willing to beat the brakes off him if it happened again. |

Yeah. The team is better off having him than not. The underlying issue is the team's inability to have ready defenseman in the farm system. Trading for defenseman or signing them in FA is very costly.
I'm just glad the team is finally on the right track to developing young defenseman.
There is no way to get good defenseman without parting with good players or overpaying. The deals for Coburn and Carle don't come along every year. People seem to think Homer can just pull one of those out of his hat at any time. |
