Personally, I enjoy reading all thoughts; we don't all have to agree or apologize for posting them. Divergent thinking is a must in the world, and no one's opinion here is more or less relevant than anyone else's

Here are my thoughts.

1. The flyers did well with keeping shots out wide for better part of the game until they had to play catch up after the pp goals. Only real breakdown was the Zucarello goal. Emery was able to see almost evrything.

2. Best line was Cooter, Akeson, Read. Yes Akeson took a bad penalty but the line created some chances and was able to move the puck. As much as Akeson has limitations you can see his offensive insticts.

3. Giroux needs to get more engaged. Hartnell and Voracek were moving well.

4. I am not in panick mode but maybe moving Vinny to the top line with G and Voracek and having a line of Hartnell - Schenn - Simmonds could help in this series. Schenn - Simmonds - hartnell did well before playing together in a very north/south style and could help in getting pucks deep and working the boards and defenders.

5. The loss sucks but since the schedule is spaced out i think it limits the momentum the Rangers take into game two. Also if mason goes back in it is not like he is replacing a goalie who just stood on his head. No goalie controversy to talk about until game day. His puck handling also helps the dman in not allowing the rangers forwards to get in the forcheck as quick sometimes because he is moving the puck around the boards.

Not much reason to crucify any of them. They're rational and you do a good job explaining them.

Without Giroux, the Flyers aren't close to a playoff team. I'm not criticizing him at all. He's a very competitive player and when he gets frustrated he sometimes loses control of his emotions. He's got to be smarter.
- PLindbergh31

I think saying "he's got to be smarter" is a criticism. I have no qualms with that critique. I'm rather annoyed that he gets a pass on here due to his intensity and play-making abilities. I love that he'll be a perennial all-star and someone that the team can rally behind. I know he's still young, but at some point, he needs to grow up. Those frustration penalties are expected from Rinaldo, Hartnell, Simmonds, etc. But your veteran players and ESPECIALLY your captain needs to keep a cooler head and lead by example. If Giroux is slashing players behind the play and taking dumb penalties, what's to stop Schenn or Coots from doing the same?

Akeson, who really f'd us, got more ice time after his penalty than VL did.

I don't get it.

More or less a compilation of what I've said in 10 posts or so in the last couple threads.

Much more effectively articulated than mine though. Nice post- agree with it all.

I'd also like to add:

6. Emery played well enough for the team in front of him to win last night

I don't believe the team lost due to a lack of hustle or heart or whatever you want to call it. They lost because they didn't execute zone clears and let one unlucky PP goal totally dismantle them.

I felt they had been outplayed for 2 periods, but I still felt good about their chances going into the third. They had limited the Rangers scoring chances and I knew a PP would be coming to them in the third.

Things just completely unraveled in the third. Its like the floodgates opened once that first PP goal went in.

- PhillySportsGuy

They have heart I will always give them that. I think the game-plan was foolish from the start of puck drop, going so defense first. The Rangers are not some high powered offensive team but the Flyers played them as such. The Flyers excel when they are able to make offense their strength and work teams down low. Not playing so D-first and essentially putting the focus on your d-men.

I think they lost primarily b/c of the inability to make a quick pass or skate the puck our of their own end and initiate a transition game. Basically unable to handle the speed of the Rangers who had the pucks on their stick for far too long last night. That along with losing nearly every race to the puck. To me, that loss was similar to when they played Buffalo in the playoffs years ago when Forsberg was still around.

Flyers didn't play well, but 1 penalty on the Rags the whole game was a f'n joke.
- wolfhounds

The officials put their whistles in their pockets through the first two periods, for both teams, until the Flyers took some really obvious and undisciplined penalties in the third period.

The Rangers didn't really commit any obvious crmes that would warrant more than the call that was made on them. They would have had a second power play if not for the unnecessary Schenn minor, on Brassard, which led to the 4 on 4.

No crucifying here.. well said. Regarding your last point, there is zero controversy and I think Ray played well. I just think Mase will give us a better chance to steal one if he is healthy. No panic yet, but I don't want to go back to Philly down 0-2.. the next game is critical.

The McDonagh cross check on Giroux was as blatant a penalty as there is and wasn't called.

I am praying we get an update that Mase is ready to go for game 2... Also, Akeson made a bad play and it cost us, however the team was not playing well enough to begin with and Akeson was one of the only forwards with any hop!..I hope Chief gives the kid a chance to make up for it.

When the game was within 1-goal or tied, the team had the puck 60%+ when Akeson was on the ice, versus ~18% when VL was on the ice.

I agree with all of it except moving Vinny to the top line LW. It's pretty clear he can't play there. The only option I can think of is moving Raffl back up to the top line and Hartnell to the second line.

I don't see any real lineup changes happening though.

Same as Nash getting tripped in front of Emery and no call came out of that.

My point is, the officials were letting a lot go, the Flyers made it really easy for the refs in the third.

VL played 1:42 in the 3rd period. 1:01 on the worst powerplay anyone has ever seen. Thats 41 seconds in the 3rd period.

Ice time in the 3rd:
Akeson 3:21
B. SChenn 3:36
Raffl 5:05
Coots 7:39
Simmonds 3:27
Hall 4:17
Hartnell 6:11
Read 6:46
Giroux 5:37
Rinaldo 1:17
Voracek 5:34

Would really help if we could get Vinny into the game, but he can't do that sitting on the bench. If you're going to let players play through the crap they did last night, you might as well let Vinny do the same.

He sent him out I think a couple of shifts after with the Couturier line. Akeson should play, he took some big hits and was still one of the best forwards offensively.

The kid can do things with the puck on his stick, and the team lacks players who are good at skating with the puck on their stick. I like him.

Akeson was one of if not the best Flyers forwards last night as many have pointed out. There isn't a rule against killing penalties. Flyers PK had a chance to take Akeson off the griddle, and failed miserably. Hopefully Berube leaves Akeson in the lineup as the Flyers need all the offense they can get. Inserting a waste of skin like VDV is a waste of time.

Really not a fair comparisson when you look at the players on the ice with him.

Rinaldo and Hall for VL

or Coots and Read for Akeson

That's just players battling. Happens every game. Similar to the Simmonds slashes on his hands in the last regular season meeting. There was a blatant Hartnell no call on a hook a couple minutes before that.
