Is there any reliable stat? Why do they even use stats if they're so insignificant? - PhillySportsGuy
Stats like Corsi and Zone entry stats can tell you what happened. But they can't tell you why it happened. And that's where the problems come in, such as confirmation bias, and causation vs. confirmation. IMO They can't and shouldn't be used to rate players. |

Zone entries are sometimes a "team" thing, (like you previously mentioned), if a team doesn't send the puck in & forecheck enough, our defenseman will be caught flat footed at the line far too often.
Like what happened to us last night, we failed to get the puck in deep & never pressured them, hence guys like Nash, Hagelin, Zuccarello, etc, hit our blue line like a track meet. - puckhead17

That sucks. I got mine playing football with friends. I remember just having to sit out of school for a few days. - PhillySportsGuy
I've had 3, all from hockey.
First 2 were just meh- played again in a week. A little foggy for the rest of the night and day after, then subsided.
3rd one though...dumped the puck in as I gained the red line to change, turned around, took a stride and a half...BOOM forearm to the head, and on my way down everything was bright orange.
Then I hit my head on the ice and I don't remember anything much after that until the next morning.
Got hit on a Friday night, tried to go to school on Monday...that wasn't happening. Walked right into the nurse's office and was like yo I need to go home- I have a concussion. Nurse didn't buy it and told me to lay down...I told her if I lay down, I'll throw up. Then told her to just call my mom and have her get me because life was spinning faster than it is when I get poopfaced drunk.
Told me to lay down again.
K boss.
Threw up in 4 seconds....she called my mom. Missed the next 3 days of school. Man that was horrible. I threw up like 6 times from that (frank)ing concussion. Light was my worst enemy. |

I've had 3 concussions.
Knocked unconscious when I was horse collared in a 3 on 3 football match.
Less than a week later I was destroyed in a hockey game and knocked unconscious again. Didn't miss a game.
Few years back I drank a ton, took some prescription medicine, blacked out, and smashed my skull on a sidewalk. When I woke up, I was married and had a child. That was yesterday.... |

Thats why they use it relative to other players on the same team. If one defenseman on the Flyers has a much higher rate of allowing entries than all other defenseman then it means something. |

Nah, teams don't magically learn to play other teams at the end of the season. Rangers have our number right now. Fact of life. The Devils had our number for a long long time, and that ended the last time we got knocked out by them (because they lost a majority of their team).

all of this concussion talk reminds me how clueless everyone was just 15 or 20 years ago. I still remember hearing sports radio stuff about Lindros, and how he had to suck it up and play. |

I know. I got mine 10 years ago and, even then, major sports leagues were fairly casual about them.
I was thinking "How can athletes get hit like this and return to play?" |

There are a lot of boxers who don't have any brain problems at all later in life. So it's a complex injury. |

Also, in relation to blocking shots vs possession stats, when Torts manned the Rag's all they did was block shots, all night long.
So there possession stats waned significantly. |
