I totally agree with you.. I think the forwards need to slow their breakout down when those two are on the ice. They get way to far down while the other two and still trying to figure out which way to turn.
I think Berube could do a bit of a better job as well.. Akeson gets a 4 minute penalty.. yet still gets two minutes of EV TOI more than Vinny (:41 EV TOI) in the third?
Grossmann 2nd on the team in EV TOI? Adam Hall with more EV TOI than Wayne Simmonds?
Its no freakin wonder we had 6 shots in the game.
NOTE: Last night really frustrated me, and the girl at the front desk at work is really lazy so I had to have a talk with her... Not a good morning. - jak521
I thought Akeson played a pretty good game. He had the fatal four-minute penalty, but it wasn't because of poor play -- just a wild stick. |

Thats partly true, except for when Coburn or Timonen are out there.. The bigger problem is that Grossmann and Schenn cant make a simple break out pass (Grossmann especially last night) without taking a solid 37 seconds to figure out the best option. I thought the puck (and we knew would happen) was all over the place last night. How can an NHL rink be so shotty.
G and Simmonds didnt play last night. Im serious. I dont know if they were healthy scratches, but they didnt suit up. Instead a few C league guys filled in for them.
I applaud Ray Emery. With that being said, we are toast if Mason cant get back between the pipes.
I thought Coburn, Couts, Voraczech, and Hartnell were our only playoff performers last night. MacDaddy a bit too.
If we want to even make it to game 5 A LOT needs to change.
PS: I (frank)ing hate referees. - jak521
agree with all of this - although i do think emery gives them a chance to win. he's generally played very well and has little to show for it over hte course of the season. they simply don't score for him. i don't know why that is. that has to change.
and why am i not surprised dave (frank)ing jackson reffed they're game? is he permanently assigned to them? i miss kerry fraser. |

I couldn't find any "playoff performers". Maybe Emery......Couturier ? Was on the ice for 3 goals against? I don't think even he would share your assessment of his play....I thought for the most part he was lousy.
BUT.....it's one game...awful as it was.....it's only one game.

He was a lot more effective than VL, that's for sure.
Kid tends to make the right play with the puck on his stick... not enough of that on this team.
Really too bad that penalty marred his otherwise solid performance. |

I think he expected his hit would put his man on the ground and not the other way around. He knocked himself off balance and the stick swing was a natural reaction.
I thought he played well, but I think Vinny in these games should (and needs) to be better used. |

The thing that scares me about Emery is his lateral movement and rebound control. He played well last night.. and I dont pin anything on him. But Mason gives us a better chance. Hell, I trust Mason with the puck more than I do Schenn or Grossmann. |

I would be ok with playing Gill for Grossmann.
Gil has batted 1.000 this year in terms of overall effectiveness in his role. He's stepped in and honestly has been good in every game he's played him.
Roll him out there. Why not. - Giroux_Is_God
or schenn for that matter. i can't stand watching him play. gill's a grizzled vet that can still get it done in limited minutes. not to mention he's a giant. |

I actually liked a lot of what I saw him doing....but the "wild stick" cost the team game one. Beyond how they had played to that point, it was a tie game half way through the third. |

Its tought to say when Vinny is out for three shifts a period with Adam Hall and Zac Rinaldo.
Heres the thing.. One has 400 NHL goals, and is a near PPG playoff performer.. the other is in his 3rd NHL game. |

I don't think Vinny's a very good NHL player at even-strength anymore, so I don't have a problem with Akeson playing over him. |

The best outcome that is a result of putting Gill in, is that we dont have to have nearly 18 minutes of EV strength TOI for a guy who's claim to fame is hugging guys below the goal line and blocking shots.
You are not generating offense with him on the ice. Plain and simple. |

Im not saying its a bad move, sometimes you need to use it as an outlet... But it shouldnt be your only move. That is almost always a D to D pass for the Flyers.
I think the problem is with how long it takes for those guys to make a play... the forwards are a step ahead.. How do you fix it? Have your forwards sit deeper, but then you have all kinds of congestion in the 1st third of the ice. - jak521
time is a problem. i don't think having the forwards deeper is an issue - as long they're in the right spots and generally in motion. i noticed several times the d bunching up on the same side and the one who would get the puck would send it behind past his partner into the opposite corner...then there's trouble because of the rangers forecheck and nobody being being there. turns into a rodeo and just trying to get the puck into the neutral zone for a line change. |

understood. mason is a better option, and losing his puck handling ability was a concern for me. he makes a big difference back there. he also likely has better communication with the D because he's played so much more. |

I don't understand why Chief doesn't give him a chance to centre the 2nd line. He is a proven playoff vet. 7min of ice time with Hall and Rinaldo is probably not what Homer pictured when he signed him |

did he cost them the game? or did the pk cost them? it is possible to kill penalties. who knows what happens if he doesn't take that double minor, but i doubt the flyers win the game anyway. they didn't play well. their best players were invisible. |

15 shots on net.
And Akeson (3), Waffles (3), and Rinaldo (2) had over half of them.
Couple that with PP's : Flyers: 1, Rags: 5.
Ain't much chance of walking out with a W in any arena after a display such as that.

It would be great if the PK did bail him out....but they didn't ....a stupid, careless play in a road game , in a tie game half way through the third period....I was disappointed with the entire team effort and thought the better team won.....but that penalty CANT happen..... |
