I will say this. It wasn't just a bad penalty. It was a result of the kid having no strength to throw a check. While the Flyers would have probably lost regardless, the penalty was a direct cause of us losing game 1.
As a rookie you don't get to cost your team a playoff game and get to say "it's no big deal". - Flyersgod
You sound like a Flyer's beat writer. He didn't lose them the game. They were completely outplayed. His penalty was the straw that broke the camel's back.
The PK, also, could have done a better job of killing the PP instead of allowing 2 goals.
The kid played well for the most part. I think it would be stupid to replace him with some irrelevant player simply because he took an unfortunate penalty. |

Absolutely right, they have tried something radical like killing off the damn penalty!
Or at worse, give up only 1 and still be one lucky bounce away from a tie game.
To pin that loss on Akeson is ridiculous.

If stupidity led to benching, Hartnell would never see the ice - BiggE
Yeah. Benching Akeson would send the wrong message. This team has been undisciplined since the Stevens teams. I don't see why they would change now. |

Spreading the box out with east to west passing, (making Emery plod from post to post), was an effective power play.
The shots & territorial face offs were telling enough, to blame the kid for the loss is wrong. |

The first goal on the PP was unlucky. Tough poop. They needed to rebound from that and kill off the second half for the kid.
I'm just a little annoyed at how the national and local media are spinning this into "If Akseon didn't take the penalty…Blah blah blah"
Flyers were outplayed from top to bottom. They deserved to lose. |

No doubt
They were outplayed in every facet of the game, Akeson was not the problem. |

He took a 4 minute penalty in the 3rd period of a tie playoff game, my apologies for not wanting to give him a break on it. |

I know. Its people looking for story lines who blame Akeson. Any competent writer knows this blowup was inevitable with the way the team was playing. From the 2nd half of the 2nd period, the Rangers must have out chanced the Flyers by, at least, a 5:1 margin. |

That's cause too many of the media that covers hockey, has either no real understanding of the game, or worse, they do understand the game, but they go for the cheap headline and for stirring the pot.
I was really spoiled in the 70's and 80's when guys like Jay Greenberg, Jack Chevalier and Al Morganti (back when he was a real reporter) covered the Flyers locally. It's really sad that we went from those 3 to Seravalli, Carcidi and Panaccio. UGH |

The loss isn't on him. His penalty did cost us the game. I only say that because we don't know what would have happened. We can assume, based on the Flyers play in the 3rd, that no matter what happened we were going to lose that game anyway.

He fell when trying to throw the check, had nothing to do with strength. Unfortunately he was careless with his twig. It is a big deal, but the fact remains that Akeson was one of the team's most effective forwards and mistakes aside, he should be playing tomorrow.

So he took a penalty. It wasn't undisciplined. It had more to do with bad luck.
Last night, Corey Perry speared Jamie Benn in the nuts. The refs gave him 2 minutes and the Stars scored on the PP. It could have easily been 5 minutes and a misconduct.
No one is calling for Perry's head. In fact, Perry went on to score the go ahead goal in their win.
Let's let Akeson rebound from this and see what he does. |

Even if we stay tied through the 3rd, Lundqvist was barely awake from the non activity around his net.
edit: If we forecheck better, we at last draw a penalty or 2 to jump start our offense, that's where we lost the game. |

Sorry, the kid went for a hit, and got his stick up. Poop happens. At least he was trying to do something. It's not like he took a run at someone or did something stupid intentionally.
Sorry, but the way they were playing at that point in the game, they were going to lose, it was just a matter of time. |

This is the game that, IMO, decides the series.
If the Rangers win. They go into Philly knowing that all they need is a split and it's pretty much over and even if they lose 2 on the road, all they need to do is keep winning at home and they still move on to the next round.
If the Flyers win. Well the whole 9-0 Rangers mystique at the Garden goes right out the window and the Flyers confidence soars. Plus the Rangers would have to be thinking that anything less than a split in Philly and we are done.
Gonna be a fun one! - BiggE

Good news is, he didn't miss a shift after the dbl-minor, so hopefully that means Berube realizes the kid is playing well and isn't going to banish him to Chateau Dog. |
