It just seems like a lot of work to try and accommodate Vinny.
Schenn may not be scoring but he doesn't kill you defensively. He ends up being even on most nights.
Vinny either scores or ends up on the ice for goals against. Its so boom or bust with him. - PhillySportsGuy
If Vinny is unable to compete against the Rangers then by all means keep schenn on the 2-3rd lines. Schenn is a much quicker player.
I'd personally like to see....
Simmonds/Coots/Voracek
Hartnell/G/Read
Raffl/Schenn/xxxx
Rinaldo/VL/Hall
I'd like to see if Voracek and G can help some other players get going. Spread the speed out.

It's more an effort to get the best possible combos, so each line can have success. Simmonds needs to do more at 5 on 5. Outside of the Carolina game, Simmonds hasn't scored an ES goal since March 28th.
We all know the struggles of Vinny and Schenn, and as I posted earlier, Raffl didn't really seem to fit with them well. |

Schenn was twice the junior player that Shaw was. Of course, that could mean nothing, or it could mean everything. Hard to say at this point. - Tomahawk
Thank you for not getting offended by the question. Appreciate the response.

I knew all of this already. I still pick Schenn.
The answer is because Schenn has a much much higher ceiling than Shaw, was drafted in the top 10, and was considered the best prospect in hockey for years. He's scored at every level he's played at, he's been developed slowly by the Kings and only stepped into the NHL when he was ready.
His first full NHL season he was a 20 goal scorer. He's still a kid. There's going to be the inconsistencies. As he develops more in the NHL, I trust those inconsistencies are going to decrease in...magnitude for lack of a better word.
There's no reason to hate on the kid. He's only going to get better and even if he doesn't, then we have a "depth" forward who can pot 25. Sweet.
EDIT: Let's not forget the whole Patrick Kane thing, like Jsaq said - Giroux_Is_God
Schenn is 3 inches bigger than Shaw too. Once he puts on some weight, it will really show. |

Schenn, Raffl and Simmonds had 6 of our 15 shots. That being said, there's no reason not to mix things up while looking for better combinations. - wolfhounds
I would be tempted to switch things up a bit, maybe just early in the game to see how NY counters, maybe switching Jake & Read, or sliding Schenn between Wayne and Jake.
They really key on smothering Giroux so much, with the 2 D men, maybe it throws a loop in there coverage.

I'm by no means drawing a comparison between Shaw and Schenn, I know nothing of Shaw. However, their numbers are close.
Shaw: 165gp 41g 36a 77pts +17 164PIM
Schenn: 192gp 40g 47a 87pts -17 112PIM - Flyersgod

I just don't think this team meshes well. That goes for the lines and d pairings. There are just too many board players and laborers on this team. They need more speed and puck carriers. I think Schenn and Couts will get better in that area, but it's lacking with this current roster.
I'm not in favor of blowing things up or making a big move. I just don't think this current group fits well together. I think most are good players individually. |

Zherdev was picked 4th overall and has similar stats to schenn over the first 150 games of their careers (roughly).
No big deal huh? Win/Win no matter what for you. However, in the cap era we can't afford to pay players based on hype etc.
I get the fact that my avatar ruffled some feathers. Wasn't really my intention, I thought it would be a funnier avatar. You love Schenn. I don't.
I'm going to cheer so hard when he gets traded in the off season. I apologize in advance for my future behavior. I personally can't stand the kid and his brother.

They should double shift G sometimes. Maybe sneak him on the ice with Couts and Read. That way he can go all out and try to score without worrying as much about defense. |

There is some of that. We could well see pieces moved this summer to tweak the defense and try to get a better fit up front at the same time. They could use a shoot first winger, for sure. |

I can't draw a comparison between the two players because I don't know much about Shaw.
I based the comparison on age and stats only, which is why I prefaced this before I posted the stats. |

With tv timeouts you can do this, I would like to see Berube try to get him away from McDonough & Girardi, yeah, I know, good luck with that.
But maybe giving NY another line to worry about could do that. |

When they trade Schenn and he becomes an all star, you and PLind will be on the front lines demanding Homer be fired because he traded away Pitkanen, Jvr, Sharp, Schenn and Lindros. |

NHL Director of Central Scouting E.J. McGuire
"Brayden is of the power-forward ilk. He has learned a little about the NHL from his older brother Luke Schenn and he knows how to go to the net. He is a threat to score at all times on the ice and dishes the puck very effectively to his linemates in getting the amount of assists that he does. He takes the puck to the net with the kind of authority that a Jonathan Cheechoo does, yet has puck dishing capacities that maybe a Joe Thornton does. Both are tough players, both are tough to move out in front of the net and Brayden fits that ilk perfectly."
Brandon head coach and GM Kelly McCrimmon
"Brayden is a very complete player. He is a leader, strong physically, competitive, with a very high skill level. He has great vision, and a great release on passes and shots."
That's the crap that scouts say that turns me sour on players once we get them and they wind up being no where near the player they've been compared to. Perhaps this is why I dislike Schenn the way I do. |

The trouble is, in the cap era, you have to deal with the growing pains of young players, and every team has a guy or two making more money based on what they expected them to do than what they have done.
Schenn/Zherdev comparison is apples to coffee maker. Zherdev was an immensely skilled and incredibly soft player. Schenn is more a skilled, physical player who can be effective even if he doesn't score.
Schenn's inconsistencies are annoying, but it's similar to the JvR situation. Team gets impatient, then trades a dude right before he breaks out.
