NHL Director of Central Scouting E.J. McGuire
"Brayden is of the power-forward ilk. He has learned a little about the NHL from his older brother Luke Schenn and he knows how to go to the net. He is a threat to score at all times on the ice and dishes the puck very effectively to his linemates in getting the amount of assists that he does. He takes the puck to the net with the kind of authority that a Jonathan Cheechoo does, yet has puck dishing capacities that maybe a Joe Thornton does. Both are tough players, both are tough to move out in front of the net and Brayden fits that ilk perfectly."

Brandon head coach and GM Kelly McCrimmon
"Brayden is a very complete player. He is a leader, strong physically, competitive, with a very high skill level. He has great vision, and a great release on passes and shots."

That's the crap that scouts say that turns me sour on players once we get them and they wind up being no where near the player they've been compared to. Perhaps this is why I dislike Schenn the way I do.

- Flyersgod

Omg. You mean he didn't become Joe thornton?!?! Well, if he's not HOF caliber at age 22, then theres no reason to like him or keep him. He's pretty much useless.

I've mentioned this a million times, but my dream scenario is Jagr and Stralman in; Vinny and Grossmann or Luke out.
- PhillySportsGuy

I'd be OK with moving anyone, as long as they get value.

I'd be not at all upset if Jagr returned.

And my opinion of Stralman has been clear for some time

The trouble is, in the cap era, you have to deal with the growing pains of young players, and every team has a guy or two making more money based on what they expected them to do than what they have done.

Schenn/Zherdev comparison is apples to coffee maker. Zherdev was an immensely skilled and incredibly soft player. Schenn is more a skilled, physical player who can be effective even if he doesn't score.

Schenn's inconsistencies are annoying, but it's similar to the JvR situation. Team gets impatient, then trades a dude right before he breaks out.

- Jsaquella

I was only making the point that no matter where you're drafted in the draft, it doesn't make you a better player.

I'd rather Scenn any day of the weak over Zherdev.

First choice would be Niskanen, not sure the Pens can afford him, he would round out our D nicely!

So you're telling me Morin isn't going to be Pronger and Nichushkin isn't going to be Eric Lindros?

Zherdev was picked 4th overall and has similar stats to schenn over the first 150 games of their careers (roughly).

No big deal huh? Win/Win no matter what for you. However, in the cap era we can't afford to pay players based on hype etc.

I get the fact that my avatar ruffled some feathers. Wasn't really my intention, I thought it would be a funnier avatar. You love Schenn. I don't.

I'm going to cheer so hard when he gets traded in the off season. I apologize in advance for my future behavior. I personally can't stand the kid and his brother.

- Flyersgod

...my jimmies are far from rustled right now.

I ain't even mad bro.

My responses didn't even come close to reflecting that, I thought.

Anyway, please don't pull the whole Zherdev thing- that's cherry picking, and invalid, because you and I are both 100% certain Schenn is not going to be a Zherdev 2.0. Also, his next contract is probably gonna be in the realm of what? 3-4 mil? For a 22 year old 20 goal scorer with a high ceiling? Not exactly a terrible contract there, visiting the point you made about "affording" hype.

I get it. You hate Schenn, I don't. But, at least wait til the dude is 25 to start poopting on his chest on a consistent basis, ya know?

I just don't think this team meshes well. That goes for the lines and d pairings. There are just too many board players and laborers on this team. They need more speed and puck carriers. I think Schenn and Couts will get better in that area, but it's lacking with this current roster.

I'm not in favor of blowing things up or making a big move. I just don't think this current group fits well together. I think most are good players individually.

Absolutely. At the same time, you have to kind of take the word of scouts-especially those who are also trying to provide content-with a grain of salt.

Take Ryan Pulock from the last draft. He gets compared to Al MacInnis. I think he's a damned good prospect, but that MacInnis stuff is just to provide a well known NHLer who the kid is similar too. I doubt Pulock becomes a HHOFer with a couple Norris trophies on his mantle.

In the blurb from Kelly McCrimmon, Schenn was a do everything player in junior. He was a phenomenal player at the junior levels, near dominant. He's struggled to do that at the NHL level, but at the same time, I've seen enough flashes that I haven't written him off yet.

I will say this for Schenn... majority of his points 32/41 were scored at even strength. That's only 7 points less than Voracek and tied with Hartnell.

It's no big deal to me. I've made peace with the fact that some love the crap out of him.. and I don't and that bothers others like their love of him bothers me.

Crosby
Ryan
Pouliot
J. Staal
Toews
N. Backstrom
Kessel
P. Kane
Jvr
Turris
Stamkos
Tavares
Duchene
E. Kane
Schenn
Taylor Hall
Tyler Seguin
Niederreiter
RNH
Landeskog
Huberdeau
Strome

These are all forwards picked in the top 5 from 2005-2011. If you're drafted in the top 5, there is a pretty good chance you are or will develop into a top line player. Worst case is a top 6 player.

Everytime someone expresses their love for him, my hate grows.

Love (for schenn) is similar to hate for dark side (which I guess i'll be on).

Ok this is where I duck out and go start this stupid, useless Edgar Allan Poe essay.

Good day to all y'all. I'll be on a train later, but going east into Jersey this time, to meet up with my grandparents and family for Easter.

Provided good Wifi and no procrastination, "see" you then, peeps (pun intended)
