It is strange, and wonder if anyone else gets this vibe?
Do they not seem to be playing a different style, than the one that they were successful with in the regular season? |

he was pretty much blatantly hooked before he came down on the stick. no call. - hammarby31
Yeah but they were told to focus on slashes today.
NHL sends out memeos to refs each day as to what to call/look for. I wish I was kidding |

If the Flyers were the team initiating more plays and having the puck on their stick more they would probably get more calls.
The team chasing the play usually gets more penalties. - flyer_nutter
True but blatant stuff is still blatant and needs to be called. |

I kind of think they are playing tentative maybe due to the lack of success they've had vs this club recently. |

happy to get out of the 1st just down by one goal. they HAVE to find a way to eliminate these stupid penalties. The one by Jake was just idiotic.
I think we're playing twice as good as in the first game, though. |

Got all these big D men. I say start letting them go for hits in transition. Might be the only way to start slowing the Rangers down... |

Compete level is much higher but most shots are from the perimeter. Voracek essentially willed himself to score. I could see him on the bench asking players to calm down after 2nd goal.
Where's our 2nd line and the emerging stars: Schenn and Simmonds? |

the rangers are still outskating them and getting to most of the loose pucks. this is how they look when their opponent is committed to playing a certain way. they never really have an answer. |

They are not down a game, and a goal in this series because of the 'refs' imo.
It contributes sure, but they need to make their own breaks, initiate their own plays and skate to get the Rangers to chase the play. That's how you get PP's.
Initiate not retaliate. Not really a fan of Hartnell saying they need to stay away from the scrums because they waste energy there. They play better as a team when they engage with emotion, and throw other star players off of their game.
This team is not the 'machine like' Red Wings. |

Some of that has to be attributed to the Rangers.
They are playing as good as they can I think and that can change what the other team does. |

Seems more like they've gotten comfortable with the one they've been told to be playing |

I've watched nearly all the play off games so far this year and the trend including the first Flyers game has been to let a ton go that got called during the regular season.
Today this game has reversed this trend and they are calling ticky tack crap.
No consistency

I'd like that too. The Flyers have done a decent job in back-check pressure, there is no reason with the apparent grit on that back end for them to not try and stand up more.
Or sweep the damn stick at least instead of just backing off and waiting for the forwards to take the puck away. |

Assist on first goal.
Won multiple key faceoffs.

That first line is playing well as they have done all year. You can see the anger in Giroux and Voracek. Not so much through the others lines. |

I disagree ... the Flyers have won a lot of races to the puck, and a lot of puck battles.
the difference in the game has been the penalties the Flyers have taken .. not just because the Rangers scored on a PP, but because every time the Flyers get a bit of momentum shift-to-shift they take a stupid penalty to interrupt the flow. |

I'd keep Emery unless it turns to blowout. Cant send a message of panic, they seem to be losing composure as it is. |
