Reached over, not around. If Zuc wasn't leaning completely on Coburn and relying on Coburn to keep him on his skates he wouldn't have falled.
It's whatever at this point. It's no surprise to me that the flyers don't get more calls in their favor. - Flyersgod
Falled
I will be angry if the calls don't even out in Philly. So basically, I will be angry |

And what do you do if Mason comes in and struggles? Does he get to play because he's the #1/starter? Should Martin Gerber have been kept in in 2006 because he was the #1/starter? - jmatchett383
Well this is how goalie controversies start among the fan base. If he's healthy, he's the #1. If he plays poorly, you come right back with him in the next game. The same way they did with Giroux, after he played poorly in game 1. You get him right back out there. The only caveat is his health. If you think he played poorly because he's still effected by the injury, then you don't come back with him. |

If the Flyers would stop that stupid stuff at the end of the play that they are known for they might get a call in their favor every now and then. But they refuse to quit and it always bites them in the ass.
... except when we play Pittsburgh. |

I dont even know why there is any debate on whether Mason (if healthy) should play. Its a no brainer. |

Yeah I wasn't trying to do that, but I got sucked into the debate.... My original point was just that Mason's puck moving skills could have alleviated pressure quicker in the zone and these theoretical scoring chances might never have happened.
I also just noted that Mason has made these cross ice saves during the season and seems to make them with ease. But if Mason was playing the Rags would be trying to get guys in front of the net and get deflections and rebound goals and not trying to make these types of east west plays to begin with. - FlyersSteve118
Oh well those are legit points to discuss. |

Except now Emery is out of position because he's constantly anticipating a cross-ice pass and begins to cheat. I think everyone likes the idea of Emery as a backup and he's the reason we won game 2 (and he's NOT the reason we lost game 1). That being said, he's a 1-1 backup goalie with an obvious deficiency in his game that has been exploited for multiple goals across multiple games. If Mason is healthy, you put him in. It's as simple as that, and I don't think Berube will have a tough time making that decision. And you have to admit the Rag's 2nd goal was weak. Sure it's nice that Emery adjusted, but that goal shouldn't have happened. - steelydan
how about the defenders not allowing a wide open diagonal pass through the slot? i think the 2nd goal looked worse because it knuckled on him and still went in.
most people have never played goal, let alone at the professional level...and really have no idea how quick and how hard it is to stop pucks like the ones that got by emery yesterday. it makes me insane.
look, i'm not going to argue mason isn't the better goalie and doesn't deserve to play. he is and he does. if he's healthy he should play. they're all professionals, emery included, and he knows his role on the team. he's done his job and that's all you can ask.

Ok, say Mason is in net for game 1. Say he does stop the 2nd ranger goal. The powerplay still had another 1:45ish seconds. Unless Mason was playing like Patrick Roy, there is no chance of him getting out of those 4 minutes without giving up 1.
The problem with this debate is this. You guys are debating a historical event that happened with Emery and replacing him and changing the results. Logically you can't do this in an argument. Mason didn't plaly, so we don't know what would have happened regardless. - Flyersgod

Well this is how goalie controversises start among the fan base. If he's healthy, he's the #1. If he plays poorly, you come right back with him in the next game. The same way they did with Giroux, after he played poorly in game 1. You get him right back out there. The only caveat is his health. IMO there is no controversy. If Mason is healthy is plays. But the way Emery has played there is no reason to bring Mason back if he is only 70-80%. Like I said early on this thread no matter who played these 2 games, the series would still be tied at 1. |

I'd hope they give him a shot over Rinaldo in this series... Rangers' 4th-line is playing really well... Flyers own 4th gets torched every time they hit the ice. - Tomahawk

Rangers will have more powerplays. Don't even hope it differently. That way in the event it does happen, it has a lot more meaning. - Flyersgod
Similarly...and I used my statistics class to come to this conclusion:
The probability of success given low standards is significant.
In other words,

Hey, that's fun, let me try.
We will acquire Shea Weber for 3 players we don't want anyway.
Crosby will get his wiener caught in the car door
Man, this is fun! - puckhead17
I'd like to add
James Neal will cheapshot himself and end his own career
Ovechkin will score 75 goals next year, but finish -90 and the Caps will miss the playoffs
Gary Bettman will retire and be replaced by Larry the Cable Guy
Shanahan will trade the entire Leafs roster and yet they will still miss the playoffs even though every Leafs fan insists that they are the favorite going in to win the cup.
Hey, this is fun!!

i think the knuckle puck (frank)ed up emery's timing. - hammarby31
I think so also, but I think Mason get's there quicker and gives him more time to adjust to the flutter shot. Can't know for sure obviously, but I think Mason get's that one. |

Here is my prediction with regard to the goaltenders. I highly doubt Mason will be ready to play tomorrow, especially since today is only an optional practice for the players.
Emery goes in game 3. If he plays well and the Flyers win, he will be back in there for game 4. If not, Mason will get the call Friday night. |

Oh, so if HE plays poorly, he gets to go back in because he's "the starter," but if Emery plays poorly, you don't go with him because he's "the backup." Gotcha. I didn't know they had those labels on their jerseys. |

Looks like the decision is probably going to be made for Emery to start game 3. Mason/Heeter sharing shots in practice. No way he plays without full team practice.... (Pinaccio) |
