Mason was named the starter based on a season of play where he, statistically and on non-statistically, was a better player. That is why he earned the starter status. There was nothing arbitrary about it.
Now that it's the playoff, you have a goalie who just turned in two performances where no goalie would be able (correction: "expected") to win in Game 1, and who basically just stole you a playoff road win. So, I don't care about their roles or titles. He was given a chance, and succeeded, and I'd reward him with another start, regardless of his "role." - jmatchett383
Well I'd say that it would be a poor decision on Coach Matchett's part to ignore the workhorse and reward the backup. That may sit well with the players; it may not. Coach SteelyDan would put Mason back in there when confident of Mason's health, because he's the better goalie and gives the team a better chance to win. And at the end of the day, that's what it's all about. |

You can put 18 skaters onto your roster, so of course you can. How many goalies can you play at once? - jmatchett383
You're pulling out the player that you had in the lineup, and putting Giroux back in. So it's still one for one. |

So let's say that Claude Giroux was out injured. And his replacement player played very well in the two games, while Giroux was out, and the Flyers won those games. If Giroux is ready for game 3, would you not put him in the lineup and right back on the top line? - MJL
apples and oranges. but i agree mason should go back in if he's ready. |

You know what guys, you're right: we should never, ever reward good play with more playing time based on labels and roles earned over a season. Jason Akeson should not be playing, because he was labelled as an AHLer all season. Steve Downie should be on the third line because that was his position all year. - jmatchett383
Now you are just being ridiculous. You know how hockey works. Mason is the better player and Emery played good for us. Got the job done. Now its time to win this series. By putting the best team on the ice. And Mason is the better player. |

Yes, I would. One game would not be enough for me to pull the #1 and go with the backup. How many games did Gerber play in the playoffs before being pulled for Ward? - MJL
2, iirc, they were down 0-2 to the habs in the first round. |

That's different. You can ice 18 skaters, but only 1 goalie. Please refer to your previous post for confirmation.

the Grossmann call on Nash was bogus too
Grossmann is entitled to his ice there, just because Nash tried to go through him does not make it interference - Marc D
i went ballistic on that call. |

I'd hope they give him a shot over Rinaldo in this series... Rangers' 4th-line is playing really well... Flyers own 4th gets torched every time they hit the ice. - Tomahawk
an argument could be made for double shifting Raffl, the 4th line is noticeably better with him on it |

What should be done, is if all players are healthy, is put the best lineup on the ice. And if both are healthy, Mason is the better goalie. Regardless of how well Emery has played to this point.
Steve Downie has the track record of not playing well, and not being effective for a large chunk of games down the stretch. |

2. He had a 1-1 record in 6 total games that playoff. So, 2 is the magic number? |

Dude, this is a ludicrous argument (maybe mine is too) even for you. You're comparing putting 1 of 12 forwards in a lineup to putting 1 of 1 goalies in a crease. |

Similarly...and I used my statistics class to come to this conclusion:
The probability of success given low standards is significant.
In other words,

Word problems were always a nightmare for me too. The "create a formula" for the following: The Flyers have 4 players taller than 6'2". Player x is taller than 6'1". How much cocain does Jeff Carter blow during a weekend at the shore?

STATS IS NOT MATH AND YOU CAN'T TELL ME OTHERWISE
In stats, you ASSUME the data is normally distributed and you ASSUME your equations are valid and you ASSUME you're going to get a horrendous grade on your exam
In math, you PROVE things. You PROVE why your equations are valid then you use them.
Stats lies to us all.

Eh, F this. Let's just start Mason no matter what because he's the starter and pay no need to hoe Emery played. I'm sure it will have no possible ill effects on the team. Have fun today guys. Enjoy being right. |

Nothing ludicrous about it. A player is out of the lineup due to an injury. A player replaces the injured player. When the better player is healthy, he goes back in the lineup, and the replacement comes out. Because he's the better player. Mason is healthy, is a better goalie then Emery is. Regardless of how well Emery has played. |
