I'm just glad Jordan Staal didn't want to sign long-term with them. Sutter is okay, but he is no Staal. The Kennedy-Staal-Cooke line gave the Flyers plenty of trouble. The Pens third line hasn't been nearly as potent in two years. - ravishingone
oh yeah. sutter isnt staal by any means. staal was a perfect third line center for the pens. but for 6M, that would have been a hell of a lot of money sunk into him. |

i know purists may not like it, but I love seeing non traditional markets have success, and really being given a chance to see if they will take to it or not. - stayinthefnnet
I agree, I think the purists would rather see the shootout go first, (this one would).
It's funny how they determine tiebreakers down the stretch in the standings, giving no credence to shootout wins in deciding factors. |

Yeah he made a solid move too! I was more surprised about the move Hall made than anything else. Was not expecting a goal there. |

im very, very torn over the shootout. i definitely love watching it. but part of me is still a little unnerved over the fact that how can something be considered a tiebreaker but then not be given relevancy like you said. i dont want to get rid of it. i think the best solution (which inherently appears even more radical) would be to adjust the point system like some have mentioned on here before. |

They definitely are. They both need to step up though. a very quiet series so far. Neal is a good sniper, but is almost entirely dependent upon his center for offense.
Simmonds and jakes deals are both also extremely reasonable. - stayinthefnnet
Like a true sniper.
Simmonds & Jake's deals are very reasonable, I don't think many people thought Simmonds would be a 60 point player. |

Ouch, (my opinion), but not the 3 point for regulation win theory?
That really kills the record books, (I know, so does the shootout), but I think that's way too radical. |

David Poile is phoning Homer about Hall after that move, he's looking for a first line center in Nashville.

I thought Shero offered him that much money, but he turned it down, no? Honestly, I would have rather signed Staal for that much money and moved Letang. Letang is a great offensive defensemen, very average in his own zone (even before his stroke). Geno and Sid just don't seem all that interested in being defensively responsible all the time. Staal was your Coots.

Wish the Flyers threads could have permanent 'sticky' threads.
That way people can continually argue the Richards/Carter moves in one, another one for shootouts and so on, since these topics don't ever seem to go away or get resolved.
Maybe even get a political one for Flyersgod. |

They were comparing him to Tocchet during the game, I don't completely agree with that, Tocchet could fire shots from the deep slot & circles, as well as in tight. |

I hope the NHL finally does the most logical solution.
-3 points for regulation or OT period victory
-2 points for shootout victory
-1 point for OT or shootout loss
It is just insane that a shootout victory is held in the same regard as a regulation win. I just don't get it.

Yeah. I don't ever recall a proper slapshot by Simmonds ever. Right now I think most of his points come from the PP and he's in that down low area so no need for rockets or even snap shots. He potted a nice wrister from top of the circle a couple games before the end of the season. |

Foligno back in the lineup for the Jackets. Playing on a line with Artisemov and Umberger. |

i definitely think he could. he would just need really solid consistent center play at even strength. be that him being on girouxs line, or his own center taking that next step. |

Yes, I remember that one, I love the guys game, and nothing wrong with the way he scores, they all count.
But the fact that he can score, & fight doesn't exactly make him a Tocchet clone, (the way they were comparing him).

So it it golf now? Lowest point total by season's end means you're a better team? I don't see any other reason to give negative point values.... |

they did offer him essentially the same deal carolina did. but carolina offered the chance for more prominent playing time, as well as to play with eric.
and i definitely agree. staal was awesome defensively, and even if he didnt have offensive flare, he could play keep away with the puck.
if you put patrice bergeron's brain in malkin's body, you would have likely the best hockey player in the league to date. and no, i truly dont believe that to be gross hyperbole. |
