I read something about saying Giroux isn't an elite player if he can't make his teammates better but I disagree with that statement. Crosby doesn't make his players better, his linemates still suck. Kunitz is ok but the other Scrubs they add to the top line like Stemniak, Bennett or Gibbons any better. Sure you can take pressure of them and get them the puck but it is up to them to do something with it. Hartnell is too streaky. When he hot he plays like a top line guy but when he isn't he brings the entire line down. He makes awful passes and often loses races to pucks. I missed tonight's game as they had the dumb basketball game on TSN instead but PP is hurting this team and I don't feel as if the top line is getting enough ice time |

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The Flyers continue to play into the Rangers game plan. The game was completely dictated by the Rangers.
The Rangers gap control, defensive zone coverage, aggressive forecheck, tremendous defensive collapses and stellar shot blocking feel as though they're tailor-made to disrupt the Flyers specifically.
Claude Giroux
The Rangers have absolutely neutralized Giroux. He's getting clipped, chopped, slashed, held up, cross checked and outright interfered with nearly every time he's near the disc. Giroux, in turn, is focusing more on retaliation and exerting energy 'trying to draw' a penalty opposed to just playing his game. Giroux isn't the speediest of forwards and obviously not the strongest. When he dictates the play and slows the game down, he's able to work his creative magic and open up options. I haven't seen him play the game his way yet. Unless he's ready and willing to claw and scratch through the Rangers checkers I'm afraid he'll remain to be the player we've seen through 3 games. A decent player but not a dominant, all-star/superstar player with the ability to take over the game.
Officiating
I thought there were a couple obvious calls that weren't whistled. In particular one against Giroux who started a rush in the neutral zone and upon moving the puck to the left winger was absolutely clipped/interfered with as the line rush was developing. Another tragic missed call was a stick hold on Couturier by Staal as Staal was beaten along the boards. A pathetic 'even up' call was made later against Carcillo who I thought made a solid defensive play but was penalized for it.
Ray Emery
That first goal was tragic indeed. Bad goal. He almost made the save too but it really should have never happened. You either glove that cross or you let it whizz by. The Carcillo goal was a tough break but nothing I'd consider 'soft'.
Hartnell has been solid. Couturier as well. Voracek has been down right beastly.
Still kind of waiting for Read and Brayden Schenn to show me some something.
Unless the Flyers adjust and switch up their strategy this series is over very quickly. The Rangers have the book, bible and cliff notes on the Flyers and they're executing it perfectly.
Finally, the Flyers PP has been utterly dissected, studied and negated by New York. I say kill the umbrella look and switch it up. Let Voracek play the role of Giroux and qb it.
Would love to see Jake on the PK. |

Consider both teams fortunate on that. Flyers top line RW only sat for 2 but Hagelin wasn't tossed for fight without jersey tied down. |

fight? you saw a fight?
I saw a mugging, how did Hagelin even get a roughing? that was Schultz vs Dale Rolfe 40 years later |

Berube HAS to make a change in the flyers game. The Rangers again last night blocked 29 shots....shots from the point are not working. They have to spread the NY D out and create better shooting lanes. They also need to start dumping the puck with a purpose... They dump but nobody retrieves it. It's just picked up by a ranger d-man and out of the zone it goes. It's been way to easy for the Ranger defence. If they do not figure something out soon it will just be another disappointing flyer season. |

Not sure he is the answer but if he can play, go for it.
On a side note, just love seeing this comments in the press from that class act carcillo. What a douche. Almost as classy as when he came out and said that Leighton cost the flyers the cup all by himself in 2010. Just keep your mouth shut. |

I think the lesson learned here is the Flyers cannot trade players because those players will score goals against the Flyers. From Carter to Dan "The Man" Carcillo doesn't matter. |

So did Hagelin, and if his jersey was tied down it wouldn't have come up over his head, and he might have been able to defend himself a bit better.
Both teams were lucky, as Bill pointed out above, that only roughing penalties were handed out.

That Carcillo goal could just as easily have not gone in. The puck was bouncing and just happened to clip the shaft of his stick and flit though Emery. Those are the bounces the Flyers would kill for, but aren't getting - at all - this series.

Really? You add Lecavalier and Streit in the off-season and then lose to a team in my opinion is not as good because your not playing up to your potential is not a disappointment? Sorry it is to me. |

Mason is the better goalie but they did not lose because of Emery. |

The Flyers have made adjustments. They skated, broke out of the D zone, forechecked and cycled better in Game 3 than they did in Game 2; Game 2 was better than Game 1. Last night, they spent long segments of time in the New York end of the ice. But they do need to do a better job in getting shots off faster and on net. Easier said than done.

Agreed. But that first goal was an outright misplay by Emery, which took some air out of the Flyers' balloon for about 10-12 minutes after they strung a few good shifts together very early. By the time the Flyers got going again late in the first period, they were in a 2-0 hole.

Mason at least gives you a chance to win. Soft goals change the whole dynamic of a game. The only goal that was not soft was the St.Louis tip-in. Even the analyst will say that Emery needs to make that stop on the Girardi one-timer. The effort was just not good enough. The Flyers PP on the other hand was also a reason for the loss. Way too stationary, needs more movement. |
