Definitely stay off Twitter -- the stats guys have crunched his numbers and concluded that he is, at best, an average goalie.
it is interesting -- he's got the reflexes of a No. 1, the size/athletic ability. But as far back as the World Junior tournament back in the day, he just gives up goals in key spots that just kill his team
the body language of the Pens going off the ice was BAD - AllInForFlyers
their body language from the second on was (frank)ing bad. and like i said, i dont go off of numbers too much, solely because for all their talent, playing behind the pens is a goalies cross to bear. Im not saying they are equal by any means, but lets swap MAF and king henrik's situations for a few years.
aside from the pens likely having another cup, i think their regular season numbers would look pretty damn different than they respectively do now. |

Nuge, Ebs, and Hall are absolutely a ridiculous trio. But I really dont see a whole lot of NHL ready talent that you guys could convert into significant assets. Could definitely have something brewing with this current pick, and guys like klefbom and nurse considering how they pan out. But the whole pool gagner with something never yielded much in my mind. - stayinthefnnet
Well , we do have plenty of good d prospects, but it will a few more years for them to develop. Most our quality prospects played in Jr or Russia this year We don't really need any high end talent, just solid NHL'ers with some size and defensive acumen. Need Yak to bounce back from his Sophmore slump badly. |

I work in a business where people actually make money with their math skills rather than make snarky sports comments on twitter. So trust me when I tell you that you can make math fit your story if you need to.
That said.....yeah, the body language was not good. From MAF or the team and I say that as someone that saw the Flyers reach a Cup Final with Hextall and Snow. |

i think he has the talent to do so. but even if he does, while you can never have too many good talented forwards, he doesnt really fill the holes that you really need to fill. not trying to preach down from the mountain, as obviously the pens dont really have a pebble to stand on. just kindve how i see it. |

oh yeah. im not going off the metrics at all. like you said, you can make stats fit ANY perspective. back when fleury was a key part on cup finalist/winning teams, his numbers werent exactly stellar. but there was the mentality that yeah guys okay i let a few in on me earlier, but you know what, im going to make this save now when we really need it. |

Ha! I should care more about the process than I do, but sometimes the math is helpful.
But I haven't seen body language like that since, well...MAF vs the Flyers in 2012
I think back in 1997, the Flyers had a clue that the goaltending wasn't gonna get it done. Think they were stunned to realize they were too slow, too |

Well we need some players, most of which we could get in free agency. Just gritty guys, not stars. Interesting to see if he can a DMan of quality though. I'm not really worried, tbh. |

I kind of do too.

MAF's physical gifts seem self-evident to me, but I never played goal (*lights Hammarby signal*).
I feel like the dude needs a change of scenery or something. I don't think he's the root of all of the Penguins' problems, but he just seems spooked sometimes. |

It reminded me of Claude Lemieux on Hextall in 1995. I have friends that are Pens fans, so I get it.

i really cant name many goalies that have the physical gifts he does. watch him in the shootout, where its like a dopey little game to him. half the time he Richards around, and hes still the best in the league at it. now ive never played goalie either, but i can venture to say, a large, large part of it is between the ears. never more so than in the playoffs. and that part, all the agility in the world wont fix. he has to go. |

i dont think vokoun is a viable option just yet. so it will be zatkoff. id be fine with the idea, if only because the team in front of him may have some sort of response. |

It's weird to want to cast off a dude with MAF's physical talents, but you are not wrong in your analysis. |

I feel your pain with finals. I'm in the middle of it.
I just took an exam and handed in a project today. In the midst of writing an essay right now for tomorrow. Oh and I have an exam tomorrow.
And Friday. And Saturday (SHOOT ME IN THE (frank)ING FACE) along with a SOAP note due that day. And an exam on Monday. And Tuesday. And Thursday.
My apathy for all things life for the last number of months has been staggering.
In the last few days though, this pool of apathy has overflowed and evolved into just an aura of nothingness. I do not care about schoolwork and everything the (frank) else right now to the point that it's just a cloud of nothing and therefore can't be described as anything. Even apathy. Because apathy in and of itself is something.
It's hilarious.
