I really hate the two days in between games. What a joke. Montreal could potentially be sitting around for over a week resting up while everyone else beats the crap out of each other.
Yeah the should get a break for sweeping their series but this is ridiculous. |

It's all situations. So there is no cherry picking. It's every team, in every situation.
If you want to just do 5 on 5, Carolina drops down to 15th in the League, but just 1.5% out of the top 10. Huge difference there. - MJL

BTW, nice little post about B Schenn's production:
http://www.broadstreethoc...oint-production-a-problem
Bullets:
- his ES production is right on target for a scoring-line F,
- he's the 4th best forward at generating scoring chances,
- his lack of PP production is what's limiting his overall point production. |

Most stats users use 5 on 5 because it paints a more reliable picture and full level of two way play, as most guys on the PK would have horrific numbers, because you tend to get outshot on the PK.
Since possession is only part of the game, obviously it's not as simple as just having good Corsi. It's a tool. It shows trends. There's other factors like score effects and PDO and a bunch of other things. Stats are used to illustrate trends, and you're really one of the few who seem to not understand that.
No stat is ideal. There's no number you can toss out there and say if a guy is this or higher he's great |

Vinny is not washed up. Does he have injury problems? YEP! He just has'nt been put in a position to succeed IMO. He was leading this team at the start, he got hurt, had trouble getting back into form and found himself on the 4th line. When he isnt playing 4th line he is with Schenn and Simmonds, couple of grinders with limited puck skills if you ask me. Vinny is a goal scorer, he needs a playmaking winger. |

Huh. Interesting.
That's definitely one where the eye test doesn't bear out the second bullet -- I'm fine with the first one and the third one, because hell, I was just arguing not to trade the guy, despite the frustration with his consistency.
But that second one...man, it seems like you can go a couple of weeks at a time before you see him create a scoring chance. I definitely didn't gather that from the eye test.

I swear most of the people who argue against the advanced stats are just those who are unable to grasp them mentally. Its like watching my 80 year old grandma try and use a smart phone. |

Agreed. Snapshots in time. Trends. It really isn't that hard; some are predictive, some confirm what you might be seeing, some give an idea of what we might be seeing. Nobody who follows them ever says it in the stark terms of black-and-white that the detractors seem to use.
Oh, well. What can you do?

Could be how they define scoring chance, too. So far, it's any shot for or missed in the following high-value area:
(Blocked shots don't count.) |

Exactly, Schenn should be dropped to the fourth line, he has provided 0 offense. |

Well, they'd better try a little harder, because the MSM is starting to understand, and use, some of this stuff. Because some of it is predictive, and useful. Not all-seeing/all-knowing, but useful. |

I don't think he would have been recalled unless the Flyers planned on playing him. He has to be more useful than 4 minutes of Rinaldo.
Go get em kid.

He should play. Rinaldo playing basically 5 minutes a game is a non factor and a warm body at best.
That bSchenn , LeCavalier and Simmonds experiment needs to end. The Flyers have tried it at different points all year, and it just seems they are throwing them together because that is where they look good on paper. It hasn't worked, and its time for a change.

Ha! OK! How about this: "People who use these numbers should, by definition, know that the numbers aren't ironclad and shouldn't say X+Y=Z, because they should know how it works."
