Legwand on the 4th line? Can't believe what has happened to this guy. UFA this summer too? He has really lowered his value fast. |

He was only on the first line to begin with because we had 5 injured centers at the time. He definitely hasn't done enough to earn top 6 minutes since.
I like that you still have Savard on the Bruins injured list.

At least you are not stuck with Legwand after this campaign as you are with Weiss. |

Weiss hasn't had much of a chance to prove his worth. He'll get a second chance and then we can see if it was a good signing or not. Could be much worse... see Clarkson and the Leafs. |

I agree. While Weiss' numbers in limited minutes were not impressive (he also was seeing 4th line minutes by the time he went out for hernia surgery), I don't think he ever really got into a comfortable groove. Hopefully he earns some of that contract in the next few years |

I like the third line of NyQuist, Helm, and Franzen. Maybe Franzen and NyQuist can get things going against the Bruins third D pairing. |

I'm not ready to give up on Weiss yet, but I wouldn't blame the Wings if they buy him out this summer either. He hasn't gotten a chance to show what he can do healthy yet, but he hasn't really played much in the last two years either. With Sheahan, Helm, Glendenning, and Anderson I could see him being expendable.
Even if they keep him and give him another shot at least most of the other bad contracts they have are up after this season (Samuelson, Tootoo, Cleary, etc). |

The Clarkson signing is much worse?
... hey I don't like the Clarkson signing any better than any other Leafs fan, but to suggest it is any worse at all than the Weiss signing is, at best, premature.

I can see why people would say that it is. Clarkson has mostly been healthy while not being productive at all while Weiss has been horrible but hasn't been healthy since pre-season even when he played and also coming off a season where he basically missed the entire season in Florida. To some that might give Weiss a free pass or at least buys him some time with injury excuses...Clarkson doesn't have that excuse. Clarkson's contract is also longer which right now makes it seem even worst. Both should be given another season to really see where they stand but if both crap the bed again next season, Clarkson's deal will still look a bit worst because of the term of his contract. |

Yeah, neither were effective in limited time this season. The biggest difference really is in the term of their contracts since the cap hits are around 300K apart. Both got over paid on the free agent market and any argument over who is better value right now is pretty weak. |

I said it when the trade was announced that Holland got raped in that deal. I wasn't against adding Legwand but Eaves, Jarnkrok and a 2nd round pick was a massive overpayment for Legwand. Would have been better to give Jarnkrok a shot until some of the centers came back and left Franzen at center. Hated that trade then and hate it even more now and it's not because of Legwand but what they gave up for a bandaid. |

His value was absolutely inflated in Nashville. Probably actually hurt his negotiating power coming over to the wings, in regards to his next contract. at this point, I hope Holland cuts his losses with that and lets him go. Could see him trying to salvage a bad deal and resigning him, which would create a situation similar to the beginning of this year. But with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Helm, Andersson, and Glendening under contract and Shehean deserving a new contract and raise, I see no room for Legwand. |

Are you kidding me ? with salary and singing bonus we gave Clarkson this year
he made 8 million dollars , scored 5 goals
1.6 million dollars per goal is not a good investment
also Weiss is signed for 5 years with @ 24.5 million with two million in bonuses on top of the contract
Clarkson however is signed for 7 years @ 36,750 million with 27.75 Million in bonuses on top of the contract
please tell me what signing is worse ????? |

Funny too because most of the Nashville centers all produced more after Legwand was traded and Jarnkrok wasn't far off Legwand's offensive production either. Holland should let him walk after this season but given what he paid for him in that trade, I fear he will do what he did with Quincey and try to save face and re-sign him. If he does, my faith in Holland will take another hit. Like you said there is no room for him and the Wings also need to let Quincey go and upgrade him with a better defenseman. They also need to upgrade Lashoff but that can be done by promoting one of Ouellet, Marchenko, Almquist or even Sproul. Kindl also could be upgraded but depending on who they got to replace Quincey, they might not have to. Add Mrazek into the mix and maybe a good scoring forward or power forward and I would be happy with the team going into next season. |

The Legwand trade was necessary. It's too bad they needed to make the trade but without it, the playoff streak could be over. |

the Weiss signing sucks, so does the Clarkson signing. nuff said.
back to more relevant stuff:
the ghost of johan franzen is out there skating
its clear the wings need to find a top 4 guy in the offseason, and no its not smith, quincey or kindl. someone to play with ericsson, dekeyser and kronwall.
boston making detroit look slowwwww. boston is good but, they arent unbeatable. making it too easy on rask.
i dont see how Bertuzzi helps?? |

I'm shocked by how much of a non factor Franzen has been. I know he had an off year, but I would like to think a guy with that level of talent and experience could up his game in the playoffs.
I see Bertuzzi returning as having as much of an impact as Zetterberg. Guy has grit and experience, and as long as his energy level is there he will change the complexion of Detroits game when hes on the ice. |

Can we ask for the Jarnkrok back and the 2nd rounder?
What a terrible, panic trade that was.

I'm not so sure of that...Legwand after the trade 4 goals, 7 assists, -11 in 21 games...Jarnkrok with the Preds 2 goals, 7 assists, +7 in 12 games. Wings still might have been able to make it with what they had or gone after a cheaper option. |

Franzen can be "streaky". Too bad someone can't hypnotize him into thinking they are playing the AVs instead of the Bruins. -- it's looking like Z is in tonight, maybe he can somehow get him going.
I agree with you on Bert.
Bert doesn't have the speed, but he has the experience factor. Add in, I would think, the "drive"- after being healthy scratched, end of his career etc. He definitely isn't easy to push around.... |
