Not a bad idea, a roster that already has Laich, Brower, Ward, and Chimera
those seem like Trotz kind of guys. IF there is anyone who could teach Ovi the 2way game, its Trotz - DDM-Coga

How interesting would it be to see Trotz watching Ovie and his defensive coverage?
If he can fix Ovechkin's attitude towards defensive play, that would be incredible.
Either that or Ovie posts a -30 and Trotz is sent to a rubber room.
What Trotz has pulled off with little support is pretty amazing. The man has got a talent to take little and make competitive teams. |

Plus Backstrom could play good under Trotz to IMO. I think if Trots were to go to Washington. That Ovi would prolly be traded. They could get a good haul of young players for him. Or maybe Ovi starts to play some Defense and back check the was Kovi did in NJ. |

The Problem in Washington wears #8. Too bad you cant fire Ovechkin. Oates will land on his feet somewhere. |

I think so too, since that team needs an identity change, they aren't getting any better or closer by pandering to Ovi. |

All this talk about Oates being an asset on so many coaching staff's....the real question is who needs McPhee to turn their franchise around? Vancouver? Calgary? Tell me Bubbas. |

They kinda can. Did they use up their buyouts?
Not that it's an option. You can't just let him walk. |

Best thing that could have happened. Not sure why it took 2 weeks, but it's a good day for the Caps. GMGM failed badly the last 2 seasons. Oates is a great guy and I wish him the best, but it was painful to watch his lefty-lefty righty-righty thing, horrible line combos, and disconnect with upper management (ie trades for Penner/Erat and then not using them as GMGM intended).
I may be in the minority as a Cap's fan, but I'd like to see the new GM trade Ovechkin and Green. Ovechkin is not a leader. He may be a missing piece for another club, but his role on this club... let's just say that I believe this team will never be successful with him as their focal point. |

I see this comment a lot about how trotz had nothing to work with, and I have to disagree. Sure there were several Preds teams that at the begining of the year no one thought would come close to making the playoffs and they did. He also had 3 squads with 100 points or more on the season. You need to have some talent on the team to achieve that. I know Nashville's never had that big time offensive superstar, but this idea Trotz has had nothing but trash to work with is a bit much. I know you didn't say trash I'm just generalizing based off several comments I've read on Trotz over the last week.
All that being said Trotz got the raw end of the deal this season. Our GM gave him nothing but rookies to back up Rinne. Granted they didn't expect a hip infection to take him out for most of the season, but still. He was coming off a major surgery, you'd think he'd want an experienced back up JUST in case. We still almost made the playoff too. Change is inevitable, and I wouldn't expect Poile to fire himself. Trotz is a great coach I can see Washington as a good fit. Russian players don't like him that much though haha. |

If the Caps move both of those guys. I think they would move in the right direction with the returns. |

Trotz goes to Washington, and they trade Ovi to Vcr for Kesler.
VCR gets their all O approach back, and trotz gets a 2way player he loves to build around |

He certainly didn't have trash defensively, but offensively he was given little to work with. I did NOT say trash. Just less to mould a great team with. Especially at forward.
And yeah, what he did have bailed on him to Russia

Yeah force Ovie to play defence, as I recall Dale Hunter tried that and he left because Ovie was being a female dog about it. |
