That money already went to AMac (yay!).
Unless they're going to pull another Richards/Carter type deal, or are willing to dump Grossmann/VL/Hartnell, they can barely re-up the RFA's and fill out the roster with the paltry sum they have to work with. - Tomahawk
So your saying Coburn in theory is likely to be the # 1 dman next year? Good lord. |

Why are you surprised? He was this year in terms of ice time, and the year before that till he got injured. |

He's already our de facto #1 this year, since Kimmo went into early retirement, lol |

Giroux/Hartnell have exactly 1 more goal combined..
On another sad note.. Mark Streit is the co-leader in points for the Flyers in the playoffs. He is tied with Giroux and Voracek with three points each. - jak521
It's tough to look at numbers in playoff series. Small sample size and all that....
Hasn't Crosby gone 9 playoff games in a row without scoring a goal now? |

Not really sure but im figuring around 6 mill per year since we gave that to Timmonen's corpse this year. - JoeRussomanno
It will take more than that. |

This is true. To think next year there will be close to 30 million dollars committed to the backend, with no semblance of a # 1 guy. |

The MacDonald for $5M is making me angrier and angrier by the day. I know that was fair market value, but I would rather pay fair market value to Markov, Boyle, Niskanen or Stralman. |

Let's face it... only reasons AMac sniffed $5M:
1) Homer, in his sage wisdom, pre-empted the market (again),
2) Capuano stupidly used him as a top-pairing dman.
Chris Butler's not getting anywhere close to $5M and he's a virtual AMac clone . |

Eh this all goes back to last offseason for me... I dont mind mcdonald but the fromt office needs to stop jumping on anything and everything that becomes available... Streit has played well this year but hes not the answer or even a longterm solution... Vinny was just marketing ploy to sell some price gouged jerseys at that mall they call the wfc... Thats two signings that really hurt this team and maybe now ppl will understand my vitriolic change last summer... Maybe. |

Markov and Boyle are both 35+.
Niskanen could get 7/42 if he doesn't take a discount to stay in Pittsburgh. And why would he choose to come here? He has his pick of the league. |

Actually closer to 22 million right now. But that is with only 5 dmen signed. |

Markov is too brittle & Boyle is too old. I like Niskanen but don't we expect the Pens to extend him? If not, there are plenty of possible moves to free up the space to get him.
All that said, the Flyers' much-hyped forward depth isn't bearing itself out in these playoffs. This team seems like it needs another sniper. The Vinny signing looks ugly right now - he has been a complete and utter non-factor in this series. They don't even know where they should play the guy. |

At this point i think you have to move whoever you can. Nothing against grossmann or any of them really but its a not a great mix of blueliners... Ironic since theyve been least of problems in this series |

The Flyers have been a good drafting team and Homer has won most of his trades. His signings have been bad though. Can you imagine this team if they didn't have the compliance buyouts? He moves two bad contracts out and more bad contracts in. It's like he has no hindsight in any of these deals. |

The mix isn't great, for sure. I wouldn't bank on addition by subtraction though, even if the cap dollars are really piling up. |

I would rather have Niskanen for $6M than MacDonald for $5M! Niskanen is a better player than MacDonald. He's just as good defensively and much better offensively. He's, also, a right handed shot. |

Statistically, usage-wise, and in terms of physical tools, they're virtually identical. Except that Butler's bigger and a bit better offensively. |
